IMPROVEMENT IN CORNER TROWELS.

The-Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it vman/'concern Be it known that I, ,'SUMNER FfSlaEurrEn., of Bernardston, Massachusettshave invented certain new andusei'ul Improvements in Trowels; and I declare the'following to be a full, true, and exact'description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The nature of my invention consists in the construetion of an adjustable trowel, to be used around co1- ners,'which' can be adjusted to any 'desired angle, as will hereafter be more fully set lforth and described.

Figure l is an end view. of the trowel, and

Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same.

A represents the handle of my trowel, Awhich is clamped and held securely between the two end plates B, which have sharp projections, a; extending from their inner sides for that purpose.

C and G are two flat metal' plates which form the blades of the trowel, and which have a slotted segment, I), extending upward from each end.

In the lower ends of each of the end plates B there is a circular groove formed/,into which t-he ends otthe segments or arms it and move. l y

Passing through the slots in the arms D, into the end plates B, there is a thumb-screw, G, which holds the arms in place, and clamps them secnrelyat any desired angle. Y

By means of the slotted arms the plates O and C' can be moved so as to be almost horizontal to each other, or they can be so adj usted as to stand at right angles, -or'any desired intermediate point between.

In using the common trowel itis almost if not quite impossible to do neat or fine work around corners, not only on account of its length and shape, but for other reasons well understood to every mason. j

.Trowels constructed as above described obviate all these diculties, and 'present many advantages not foundin the others.

Having thus described my invention,

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Pa-tent, is y 1. A trowel, having two or more plates, C and C', which can be adjusted at any desired angle5 substantially as described.'

2. In combination "with the plates C and G, the arms D and thumb-screws G, when combined to operate as set forth and described.
