Description

@tutti effin,
WARREN c. starren;
or HfAnTfiuIcHieA'N.
YLettere Patent No. 169,065, dated November 8, 187,0.`
IMPRovi-:MENT in METHODS oF u'rrine Boor-PACKS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the sme.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Beit knownv that I, WARREN G. SLATER, of the village of' Hart, in the county of Oceana and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cutting Boot-Packs; anddo declare that the following is a full and exact description oi' the same, reference being had to the accompanying draw- -ing making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents the boot-pnckas cut from one piece before it is sewn.
Figure 2, an elevation of one side of the boot-pack complete. A y
Figure 3, an elevation of the opposide side ofthe boot-pack complete.
Figures 4 and A5, the boot-pack as out from two pieces7 before it is sewn..
Like letters of like kind figure.
y The object of the invention is to save leather,
thread', and labor in making bootpacks;, and
vlhe natureoi' the invention consists in the particular form and pattern in which the bootepacks are cut, in one or in two pieces, from the leather, or other suitable material.
In the drawing- A represents the form or pattern in which a boot pack is cut out in one piece, so that the same, when properly sewn and crimped, becomes a boot-pack comdenote like parts in each plete for use, symmetrical in form, well fitting to the foot, and durable in wear. In this form 0r patternc is the back; I, the-front; c, the upper; and rl, the sole. y 'lhc pack vis made, out ot' thisform or pattern, upon a suitable last, in theordinary way, the upper c being turned over upon and sewed to the sole d, and the front 'b sewed to the back ,by which means a pack is completed, with the lines of seam shown in igs. 2 and 3.
When it is desirable to use leather or other material of inferior quality for backs, they maybe cut out in the foi-.in or pattern shown in figs. 4 and, where the backs a are cut .in a separate piece. When this form oigpattern is used the hack will be4 placed upon the outside of the heel and sewod, as designa-ted in .the dotted lines in gs. 4 and 5.
It will be seen, on inspection kof the drawing, that the form or pattern .shown in fig. 1 is retty nearly a parallelogram, with little waste in its interior, and may readily be cut with advantage by reversing it alternately, and that the form'or pattern shown in figs. 4 and 5 of the front upper and sole may also be cut with little loss,'by reversing it alternately, so that the soles (l in the iigures named will come together heel and heel.
Thus it will be seen that the waste iu material is sniall in cutting; that the seams are few and comparatively short; and that there is a considerable saving in thread and in the labor of sewing.
Having thus set out the natureA and merits of my invention,
What I claim therein as new is- 1. The form or pattern of the hoot-packcut out in one piece, as shown and described.
2. The form or pattern of a boot-pack cutout in two pieces, as shown and described. y
