To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Monrrz Marlin, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Display-Racks, 01 which the following is a specification.

My present invention relates to a display rack, and the object thereof is the provision of a display rack adapted to show goods such as cigars, candies and other merchandise, commonly packed or placed in boxes, or other receptacles, to advantage, by showing a plurality of the boxes, or other receptacles, containing the goods, arranged in uniform and spaced positions.

The further object of my invention is to provide a display rack of this character so constructed that its overall dimensions may be materially reduced by folding the parts to a closed position in order that the rack may then occupy materially less space for packing and shipping purposes, than when the same is set up for use.

In the drawing, Figure l is a front elevation of my improved display rack. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a central vertical section.

Referring to the drawing, and in constructing my improved display rack, I em ploy a plate 15, preferably made of sheet metal or other similar material. This plate, as illustrated, is square in outline, although it may be of any suitable configuration. Fixed to one side of the plate 15, I employ a pair of light weight channel irons 16, placed at a suitable angle to each other and extending appreciably beyond the edges of the plate 15. Also suitably connected to the plate 15, and on its opposite side, is a design body member 10, provided with suitable feet 11, upon which the display rack rests when in use. This design body member may be of any suitable contiguratimi, adaptable to advertise the goods displayed upon the rack. In the drawing, this body member 10 is illustrated as having a centrally depressed portion 12 upon which a representation of the goods to be advertised may be placed, and surrounding the centrally depressed portion 12, there are raised portions 18 and depressed portions 1 so as to make an ornamental border surrounding the advertisement which is placed upon the depressed portion 12. however, that my present invention does not relate, in any manner, to the particular configuration oil the design body member 10, as this may be varied to suit the circum stances in any particular advertisement.

Fixed to the rear side of the plate 15, and to which the body member is also connected, 1s a channel iron arm 17, the outer end of which extends an appreciable distance beyond the upper edge of the body member. In suitable positions this arm 17 is provided with lugs 18 to which is pivotally connected a support member 11). This support member 19 is also preferably made of lightweight channel iron and carries a spanner 20 which adjusted to position on its outer surface. On the spanner 20 are lugs 21., pivotally connected in which, as indicated at 2t, are the ends of hook members the opposite ends of which are pivotally con nected as indicated at 23 in the outer parts of the reintorcing channel irons 1.6. These parts assume the positions as shown in Figs. .2 and 2-3, when the rack is set up for use, and it will be understood that the support member l!) may be folded to position against the rear side of the body member 10 by moving the spanner 20 toward and approximately to the free end of the support member 19.

I also employ a plurality of arms inclicated at 25, 2(3, 27, and 28; the arm 95 is pivotally connected at the rear of the plate 15, as indicated at 2!). The arms 26, 27, and .28 are similarly connected at the pivotal points indicated respectively at 30, 31 and 32, and as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, these arms are in their extended or set up positions, which is determined by a series of stops or pins fixed in and projecting from the reinforcing plate \Vhile 1 have illustrated and described tour arms arranged in pairs, it will be understood that any suitable number of arms may be employed. The stop for the arm 25 is indicated at 33 and the stops for the arms 26, 27, and 28 are indicated by 34-, 85 and 36 respectively, and these may be suitably placed, depending upon the positions to be assumed by the arms when in use. Each Of these arms is of sutlicient length to extend an appreciable distance beyond the edge of the body member 10. At its outer end, each of these arms is provided with a bracket 37 in which there are outturned lugs 38, the upper edge of each bracket 37 being inclined as indicated Cir at 39. Associated with each bracket 37, I employ a tablet L0. Each tablet is provided with tongues &1 cut therefrom and turned inwardly so as to lie against the lugs 38 and to be pivotally connected thereto by a pin 42 or otherwise. Each tablet is also provided with a tongue 41-3 placed between and. above the tongues a1 and so curved as to be adapted when its tabletlO swung on its )iyotal connection to ene'a 'e the ed e 3 b h i v wardly inclined position when 1n use and i to swing to any one of a plurality of posiof the inwardly inclined portion 39 of its bracket so to lock the tablet 40 in the inclined position which is clearly indicated in Fig. 3. The tablets a0 are preferably rectangular in form, as shown in the drawing, although they may be of any other configuratio and each tablet has its lower edge upturned as indicated at it, to proride a ledge for supporting the box of cigars, candi s or other merchandise displayed in suitaole receptacles upon the rack.

ll hen in use as hereinbefore stated, the parts of my improved display rack are placed in the position shown in full lines in Figs. 1 and 2, and when not in use and for packing and shipping; or storage or other purposes, each tongue i3 may be disconnected from its eng, igement with the edge of the inclined top 39 of the bracket 37, so that its tablet is free to turn on its pivotal connection, and each of the arms 25, 26, 27 and 28 may be turned upwardly,- that is toward the top of the body 10,-to positions indicated at dotted lines in Fig. 1, so that the space occupied by the rack when the parts are so folded, is materially less than that when it is set up for use. It is to be further noted that each bracket 37 is so secured to its arm that when the parts in position for use, the lower edge of each tablet i0 is horizontal.

I claim as my invention:

1. is a new article of manufacture, a display rack comprising a foundation plate, a

design body member secured thereto, a plurality of arms in pairs pivotally connected at one end. to the said plate so as to swing in planes parallel thereto and to extend beyond the edge of the said design body member, a bracket fixed to the outer end of each of the said. arms so as to assume an upright position when its arm is in posit-ion for use,

and a tablet pivotally connected to each bracket and adapted to be fixed in a reartions so as to pass behind and lie in a plane parallel to the said design body member when not in use.

2. As new article of manufacture, a display rack comprisiirgga foundation plate, a design body member secured. thereto, a fixed arm secured to the said plate extending upwardly therefrom and beyond the edge of the body design member, a plurality of arms in pairs pivotally connected at one end to the said foundation plate so as to swing in planes parallel thereto and to extend beyond the edge of the said design body member, stops fixed in the said foundation plate for determining the position of each of the movable arms when in use, a bracket fixed to the outer end of each of the said arms as to assume an upright position when its arm is in position for use, and a tablet pivotally connected to each bracket and adapted to be fixed in a rearwardly inclined position when in use and to swing to any one of a plurality of positions so as to pass behind and lie in a plane parallel to the said design body member when not in use.
