To all 107mm t may concern Be it known that we, SAMUEL THORNLEY, HARRY THORNLEY. and Jarras BOOTH, British subjects, residing at Hyde, county of Chester, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bandeaux for Hats9 oi" .which the following is a specitication.

This invention relates to bandeaux for ladies hats and refers particularly to improvements in the manufacture and construction thereof.

llt is customary to block or shape ban deaux to conical form to lit into the interior of the hat and also to make them of various sizes to tit different sizes of hats which necessitates a large stock to insure accurate litting and further it has been proposed to make frusto-conically blocked bandeaux from a strip with overlapping edges, hav ing hooks or press buttons or similar means ot fastening7 for the purpose of adjusting them to the hat.

This invention consists essentially in forming or stamping an annular bandeau from perfectly dat material without any shaping or blocking and with overlapping ends so that by drawing the ends over one another a. truste-conical shape is produced and the bandeau may be enlarged or reduced in size as desired.

The invention will be fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings.

In constructing the bandeau we stamp from a flat sheet of buclram or other suit? able stif material an annular piece or ring A with severed ends a. The annular ring A of stift material is covered on the front side (or on bot-h sides) with a piece B of veltet, velveteen or other fabric preferably out on the bias. The fabric B is turned over both the outer and inner edges Z) of the still annular piece A and stitched either with or without a piping C oit cane, cord or similar material. Two elastic loops D one stitched and the other loose, are applied to one end (see Figs. 1 and to retain the overlapping` ends a in position. Or instead of elastic loops, metal clips d (Fig. d), spring buttons (Fig. 7), buttons and button holes (Fig. 8), metal loops e (Fig. 9), or other forms oi' catches may be employed to retain the overlapping ends in position. Or all such fastenings may be dispensed with and the ends be formed or stitched to hold them in the desired position.

The advantage of this construction is that no blocking or shaping is required, but the truste-conical shape, where required, is obtained by overlapping the ends of the flat annular bandeau, and further the bandeau is readily adjustable to any size of hat.

lVhat we claim as our invention and desire to protect by Letters Patent is l. As a new article oit manufacture. a bandeau for hats comprising a flat, annular strip of stift7 material with severed ends adapted to be overlapped and drawn past each other to convert said annular strip into truste-conical shape; a covering ot fabric attached to said annular strip; and means for holding said ends together when in overlapped position.
