To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWIN H. C-oornn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Card-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a shelf attach ment which is adapted to be used in stores or in other places where goods or articles are placed upon the shelves, and the object is to provide an attachment for carrying a card-list or invoice describing or giving the price of the different articles on the shelf, the slide of the device being normally held in a withdrawn or folded position, so that it is out of the way.

One of the objects of the invention is to construct the device with a slide adapted to be drawn out and to provide an arrangement which will permit the slide to be readily placed in position although normally preventing the slide from being pulled com pletely out of the guiding member.

In the drawing forming a part of the annexed specification, Figure 1 is a plan showing a short portion of the shelf to the under side of which the device is supposed to be attached. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the device upon an enlarged scale and representing the same as removed from the shelf. Fig. 8 is a longitudinal central section through the device showing it in its folded position. Fig. t is a plan showing the device pulled out to its most extended position. This view however shows only the forward end of the guiding member and the rear end of the slide. This view illustrates particularly the construction of the device which normally prevents the slide from being completely pulled out. Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 4 but illustrating the manner in which the slide of the device may be placed in the guide or guide member.

Referring more particularly to the parts, 6 represents a shelf to the under side of which my device 7 is attached as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1, the forward end of the device being in substantial alinement with the forward edge 8 of the shelf.

offset so as to form pockets 11 to receive the heads of the fastening devices which are turned upwardly into the under side of the shelf as will be readily understood. The rear edge of this guide plate 9 is bent downwardly to form an end flange 12, and the side edges are also bent to form similar side flanges 13, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The forward edge of the guide plate 9 is turned downwardly and bent inwardly to form a stop or tongue 1%, as indicated in Fig. 5, but this tongue does not extend completely across the front edge of the plate but only near the middle thereof, as indicated. Furthermore this tongue is disposed over near the body of the plate and is exposed at as low a level as the flanges 12 and 13 aforesaid.

The device also includes a slide 15 in the form of a rectangular plate somewhat similar to the plate 9, but the rear edge of this plate is bent upwardly to form a retaining flange 16, which slides quite close to the body of the plate and similar side flanges 17 are formed by bending the edges of the plate, as indicated. A. portion of the outer end of this plate 15 is bent rearwardly to form a roll 18, which is adapted to be pressed by the finger in drawing the slide outwardly. On the upper face of the slide plate 15 the card 19 is placed, the edges of which are received under the flanges 16 and 17 so as to be retained thereby, as will be readily understood. This card 19 is provided with transverse lines 20, which are adapted to receive entries relating to the articles or goods placed upon the shelf.

Fig. 5 indicates the way in which the slide 15 is placed in position. In order to do this one of the rear corners of the slide is applied in the manner shown to the under side of the plate 9, and the rear end of the slide is then rotated toward one side until the flange 17 engages with one end of the stop 1 1 and the rotation toward the left is continued until the end of the slide passes completely under the plate and so that the side edges of the slide engage the upper sides of the flanges 13, that is the side edges of the slide lie between the flanges 13 and the body of the guide plate 9. After the slide is placed in this position it can be slid in completely into the folded position in which it is shown in Fig. 3. When it is desired to consult the list on the card 19 the roll 18 is pressed by the finger on the inner side so as to draw the slide outwardly. The outward movement of the slide is arrested by the tongue 14, which lies in the path of the flange 16, as will appear from inspection of Figs. 8 and 1-. In this way the tongue normally limits the outward movement of the slide and prevents the slide from normally being pulled completely out of its guide member. At the same time the tongue does not prevent the slide from being removed when desired, and enables the slide to be readily placed in position as described above. Attention is called to the fact however that the card 19 can be removed when desired without necessitating the complete removal of the slide plate 15, which carries it. The card can be removed for making an entry upon it or to enable the card to be replaced by a second card.

What I claim is A device of the class described comprising a guide plate adapted to be attached to said flange at the rear edge of said slide plate to limit the outward movement thereof, said tongue being of less width than said guide plate so as to form gaps between the ends of said tongue and the side edges of said guide plate to permit cornerwise of said slide plate into said guide plate.
