To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. lGLnnnr 1t. \Vmsnow, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kearney, in the county of Buffalo and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in .l lgg-Testers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to an tester and has for its object the production of a simple and eflicient means for testing a number of eggs at the same time.
Another object of this invention the production of an tester which. is provided with a simple circuit closing means whereby when the eggs are placed within the tester the weight of the same will close the circuit so as to light the lamps carried thereby for allowing the to be tested.
lVith these and other objects in view this invention consists of certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a perspective view of the egg tester. Fig. 2 is a central. vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a central vertical. section of the egg tester showing the electric lighting means carried by the tester. Fig. 4: is a central vertical section of a portion of the device shown in Fig. 23, the perforated plate being removed. Fig. 5 a perspective view of the light reflecting plate. Fig. 6 a central vertical section of a portion of the de-' vice illustrating the circuit closing means. Fig. 7 is a sectional view of a portion oi the invention illustrating how the light reflecting dome is attached for supporting the-same. Fig. 8 is a bottom plan view of a portion of the light reflecting dome showing the attaching means therefor.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates the usual supporting legshaving the braces 2. A supporting bridge 3 is carried upon the upper portion of the legs 1 and this supporting bridge 3 is provided with a vertically extending flange 4C. The light reflecting dome is positioned between the legs 1 and is attached to the supporting bridge 3 by soldering the same thereto, or any other suitable means. This dome 5 is provided with the laterally bent lips 6 which are secured to the bridge 3 whereby the light reflecting dome will be held securely in position.
A perforated plate 7 having'a bent portion 8 1s positioned over the upper portion of the light reflecting dome 5 so as to rest snugly upon the supporting bridge 8. The plate 7 is provided with the perforations 9 which are formed so as to constitute cup-like members for fixedly supporting the \Vhen this plate has been placed upon the supporting bridge 3 and the placed thereon, the conical hood 1.0 which is pivotally secured to the strip 11, as indicated at 12, may be swung downwardly. As this hood will rest evenly upon the strip 11 all light from the outer side of the tester will be excluded.
The lamp 13 carried by the lower portion of the dome 5 may be illuminated whereby the light will. be reflected upon the eggs carried by the plate 7. The upper portion of the hood 10 is open, as illustrated at 1 1 so as to allo a person to view the eggs carried by the plate. It may be desired, however, that. instead of using the lamp 13 some other means may be carried by the tester which will allow the eggs to be tested. In this event the light reflecting plate 15 having the concave bodies 16 may be placed so as to allow the side portions of the same to rest upon the bridge 3. A number of lamps 17 may be placed within the openings 18 formed in the reflecting plate and these lamps may be connected by means of the wires 19 and the battery 20 which is positioned within the lower portion of the light reflecting dome 5. A circuit closing arm 21 is secured to this light reflecting plate by means of the coiled spring 22 which is positioned about the arm 21. As this spring will normally be in a contracted position, the upper end of the arm 21 will extend for con-- rider-able distance above the plate, as illustrated in Fig. 4-. lVh-en the perforated plate '7 is positioned above the light reflecting plate and the eggs are placed on the same, the weight. will cause the arm 21 to move downwardly whereby the foot 23 will rest upon the shell 2% carried by the dome 5. As soon as this foot rests upon this shelf 24; the circuit will be closed through the wires 19 whereby the lamps 17 will be illuminated.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that a simple and efficient egg tester has been produced which will allow a number of eggs to be tested at the same time and which is provided with a simple and efficient circuit closing means for allowing the interior of the tester to be illuminated, Whereby the may be tested.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new, is
1. An egg tester comprising a light re fleeting dome, means for supporting said dome, a hood pivotally secured to said dome and adapted to close the upper portion of the same, a light reflecting plate carried by the upper portion of said dome, means car ried by said plate for closing a circuit, and a perforated plate positioned above said light reflecting plate adapted to carry a number of eggs for testing the same.
2. in egg tester comprising a light reflecting dome, means for supporting the same a hood secured to the upper portion of said dome and adapted to close the same, a l'g'ht reflecting plate carried by the upper portion of said dome, said light reflecting plate being provided with a plurality of concave portions adapted to support a plurality of lamps, a circuit closing arm passing through said light reflecting plate, a spring positioned about said arm and adapted to hold the same so as to extend above said light reflecting plate, a shelf positioned Within said dome, electric means posifl tioned Within said dome for forming a circuit, a perforated plate positioned above said light reflecting plate, said perforated plate being adapted to receive a number of eggs for testing the same, and being adapted to bear upon the upper portion of said circuit closing arm for bringing the same into engagement with said shelf for closing the cir cult and lighting said lamps.
3. An egg tester comprising a light refleeting dome, means for supporting said dome, a hood pivotally secured to said dome and adapted to close the upper portion of the same, a light reflecting plate carried by the upper portion of said dome, electrical BEN FRANK VINSLOW, WILLIAM D. MCBRIDE.
