MEAT-SLICER.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES J. l\ICGAR- THY, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVaterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Meat-Slicers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to slicing machines and more particularly to meat slicers. It will be understood however that my invention is applicable to all classes of slicing machines.
The object of my invention is to provide asimple and efficient means for providing a sliding draw out at all times.
Heretofore slicers have been made em bodying a blade, an actuating hand wheel and a guide rod, but this guide rod has been straight and the sliding blade has made a direct draw cut only through a very small portion of its movement and for this reason the device has been in a measure defective. My invention is designed to remedy this defect, and this I accomplish by employing a compound curved rod in connection with the blade and actuating hand wheel.
The invention also embodies certain features of novelty hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification Figure 1 is a front end View of a slicing machine embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 and, Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, A. indicates the end casting of the machine, which has a lateral arm A to which ispivoted the actuating hand wheel B having the handle C, which is also connected to the end of the knife blade D, the handle serving to connect the knife or blade to the wheel. The free end of the knife or blade works behind a keeper E which is secured to the end casting A. and projects obliquely upward as shown.

secured to the knife or blade. The upper end of the guide rod works freely through an eye H swiveled to the upper end of casting A and having inwardly extending guide portions which may be provided with ball bearings to reduce friction.
In operation the hand wheel B is rotated in the direction of the arrow by means of the handle C and during such operation the blade D is carried up over the meat to be cut and the guide rod F slides freely in the swiveled eye H.
The compound curve of the guide rod causes the knife or blade to have a draw out through the entire ham, meat or other material which might be put into the machine. Inasmuch as a full draw out is provided throughout the entire piece being cut the slice will be of uniform thickness and these advantageous operations of the knife are due entirely to the compound curve of the guide member connected to the blade at the point and in the manner set forth.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a slicing machine, the combination with a support, a hand wheel, and a blade connected thereto, of a curved guide rod connected to said blade, and a swiveled eye mounted upon the support, and through which the guide rod works.
2. Ina slicing machine, the combination with a support, hand Wheel and blade, of a compound curved rod connected to said blade, and a swiveled eye, attached to said support and through which said guide rod works.
3. In a slicing machine, the combination with a support, of a hand wheel pivoted thereto, a blade pivotally connected to said hand wheel, a guide eye swiveled to said support, a compound curved guide rod fixed in a socket attached to the blade, the free end of said rod working through said swiveled eye.
