MARION GEOSSS, OF LITTLE BIRCH, WEST VIRGINIA.
SHOEMAKERS COLLAPSIBLE WORK-BENCH.
To all whom 2 2, may concern Be it known that I, MARION Gross, a citizen of the United States, residing at Little Birch, in the county of Braxton and State of West Virginia, have invented a new and useful Shoemakers Collapsible WVork-Bench; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful shoemakers collapsible work bench.
An object of the invention is to provide a work bench of this nature for 'shoemakers and cobblers having compartments for tools and receptacles for pegs, tacks and the like, including a folding stand for a last. Said bench having forward and rear folding legs and including a back rest, the tail of which acts as a reinforcement or brace for the rear legs.
In practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations, to which the patentee is entitled, provided the alterations fall within the scopevof what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the improved shoemakers work bench, with the various part-s opened. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view longitudinally showing the various parts closed or collapsed. Fig. a is a bottom plan view of the bench showing the legs folded. Fig. 5 is a detail cross sectional view on line 55 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates an elongated troughshaped member having downwardly extending longitudinal flanges on its under face, between which flanges 2 upon the rods 3 the forward and rear legs 1 and 5 are pivoted. The rear leg is bifurcated to form two prongs 6. When thelegs 4 and 5 are in supporting positions, they are braced relative to the member 1 by the rods 7 and 8, the free ends of which are provided with U-shaped hooks 9. Connected to the eye 10 of the bottom of the member 1 near one side is the eye 11 of the rod 12, which is detachably secured adjacent the other side of the member 1 by the screw 12 'lVhen the legs are in support ing position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the V Specification of Letters Patent.

provided with three compartments 15, 16
and 17, the compartment 15 is adapted to receive lasts and the like, while the compartments 16 and 17 are adapted to contain shoemakers tools and the like. The compartments 16 and 17 are providedwith hinged closures 18. Intermediate the compartments 15 and 16 a member 19 is hinged at 20, and to which member 19 a stand is secured by screws 22. This stand is provided for the purpose of holding a last 23 at its upper end. When the stand 21 is not in use the stand may be folded downwardly so that the last will enter the space 24 between the receptacles 25 and 26, which are provided for the reception of tacks, pegs or the like. l/Vhen the stand 21 is in an upright position, the member 19 is locked in position as at 27, as shown in Fig. 1. The hinged closure of the compartment 17 is provided with a depression 28 to form a seat for the shoemaker or cobbler, and hinged at 29 to the rear end of the elongated member 1 is a back rest, which rest 30 not only act-s as such, but also constitutes a cover or closure for the entire elongated trough-like member 1, so as to obscure the various parts of the bench from view, as well as assisting in producing an article of small compass, so that the same may be readily stored away consuming but very little space, and facilitating the pack ing of the same for shipment. However, when the back rest is disposed as shown in Fig. l, the tail 31 of the same is designed to engage the rear leg 5 and act as a reinforcement or brace therefor.
From the foregoing, it is evident that there has been devised an efficient and simple work bench for shoemakers and co-bblers, and one which is desirable and practicable.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is 1. In a shoemakers work bench, an elongated trough-like member having a plurality of compartments for the reception of lasts, tools and the like, a hinged member between two of said compartments and provided with a stand constructed to support a last upon its upper end, said hinged member being constructed to be so arranged that the stand will assume either an upright position, or a position longitudinally of one of said compartments, and collapsible supporting means for the bench.
2. In a shoemakers Work bench, an elongated trough-like member having a plurality of compartments for the reception of lasts, tools and the like, a hinged member'between two of said compartments and provided with a stand constructed to support a last upon its upper end, said hinged member being constructed to be so arranged that the stand will assume either an upright position, or a position longitudinally of one of said compartments, collapsible supporting means for the bench, and a hinged back rest constructed to constitute a closure for the trough-like member.
3. In a shoemakers Work bench, an elongated trough-like member having a plurality of compartments for the reception of lasts, tools and the like, a hinged member between two of said compartments and pro vided with a stand constructed to support a last upon its upper end, said hinged member being constructed to be so arranged that the stand Will assume either an upright position, or a position longitudinally of one of said compartments, collapsible supporting means for the bench, and'a hinged back rest constructed to constitute a closure for the trough-like member, said collapsible supporting means including a rear leg member, the back rest having a tail portion constituting a reinforcement abutment for the rear leg member.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
