TABLE. '1;
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. June a, 1919.
Application filed November 12, 1917, Serial No. 201,587. Renewed October 29, 1918. Serial No. 260,174.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN A. Kinrunz, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Emporia, in the county of Lyon and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tables, of which the following is a specification. V
This invention relates to tables and has particularreference to that class of tables of the collapsible type.
An important object of the invention is to provide in a device of the above mentioned character a means whereby the device as a whole may be folded into a neat and co1npact form. A further object of the invention is to provide in a device of the above mentioned character a means whereby certain desirable articles may be confined or inclosed within the device when in a closed position.
A further object is to provide a device of the above mentioned character which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, strong, durable, and compact in the arrangement of parts.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 shows a side elevation of the de vice embodying the invention,
Fig. 2 is a top plan of the same,
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan of the same.
Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the same.
Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view of Fig. 2 taken on line 5'5,
Fig. 6 is a sectional view of Fig. 5 taken on line 66,
Fig. 7 is a perspective of the device inverted,
Fig. 8 is a bottom plan of the device showing certain elements folded into their re spective compartments, and,
Fig. 9 is a view showing the device completely' folded.
In the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 10 indicates an intermediate section having hingedly connected to each side thereof adjacent sections 11 and 12 which are in turn connected to end sections 13 and 14. respectively. Each of the sections is provided with upstanding outer edges as indicated by the numerals 15 and form with the sections 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 compartments a, b, 0, d
' movably engage the end of'a link 18 pivoted to the outer edges 15 of the end sections 13 and 14. Each of thelegs 16 is provided with a tongue 19 adapted to engage a groove 20 carried at the end of a support 21 which is hingedly connected, approximately intermediate its ends, as shown at 22. This support is adapted to be placed into position upon the legs 16 when they are in the folded position as shown in Fig. 7. The tongues 19 are each provided with a lug 23 adapted to support the support 21 with respect to the tongues 19 when the device as a whole assumes the position shown in Fig. 1.
In use, assuming that the device is assembled as shown in Fig. 1 and it is desired to fold the same into the compact form as shown in Fig. 9, the links 19 are disengaged from the lugs 18, whereupon the legs together with the links are folded into the compartments (Z and e, as shown in Fig. 8. The supports 21 are then removed from the lugs 16 and are folded and placed into the compartment a as shown in Fig. 8. The section 14 is then folded upon the section 12. Sections 12 and 14 are then folded upon the section 10. Sections 10, 12, and 14 are then folded upon section 11. These sections are then folded upon section 13, whereupon a suitable carrier indicated by the numeral 24 may be employed to secure the several sections in position, thereby facilitating easy transportation of the same from one location to another.
It is often desirable when touring, particularly by automobile to have at hand a device of the character described which may be folded into a compact form to permit easy transportation of the same. I in constructing my device have takenthis circumstance in consideration, and I have furthermore provided in the construction of my device compartments 6 and 0 adapted particularly to receive therein such articles as knives, forks, plates and other indispensable articles to be used in serving luncheon While en route. I have described the several steps necessary in the folding of the device into a compact form, and it is to be understood that the steps necessary in setting up the device from its folded form are substantially the same as those described, the order however, being necessarily reversed.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure and protect by Letters Patent of the United States, is
A deviceof the character described comprising a plurality of sections hingedly connected together and adapted to be folded one upon the other, each of said sections being provided With a compartment adapted to be closed by one of said sections; a plurality of legs hingedly connected to each of the end sections, and adapted to be folded into the compartment provided therein; tongues carried by said legs, said tongues being arranged longitudinally With respect to said legs and provided With lugs; supports having .grooves provided in the ends thereof, said grooves being adapted to receive said tongues, a plurality of links pivoted to each to lock said legs in a perpendicular position of the end sections, said links being adapted with respect to the sections whereby said supports may be locked in position with re: spect to the ends of said sections to support said sections.
