Description

'5 legheny and State o GEOME P. WAIDELY, OF PITTSBURGHfPENNSYLVNIA.
CUMBINED DISPLAY-STAND AND COVER FOB RECEPT-AGEES.
specification of Letten Patent.
Patented Feb. 3, 1914.
Application led August 13, 1913. Serial No. 784,623.
To all whom z't may concern.'
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. WAIDELY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburgh in the county of Alf Pennsylvania, have invented certainfnew and useful Improvements in Combined Display-Stands and Covers for Receptacles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to theaccompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a combined dislay stand and cover .for receptacles and has for its object to provide a device of such class, in a manneras hereinafter set forth, for displaying and supporting a receptacle at an inclination, at the same time providing a cover for the contents of the receptacle.
The deviceI is particularly designed for use "as a supporting stand for displaying boxes of cigars, as well as forming a hinged cover for the box and furthermore including a handle used ferlifting the box and shifting the cover, as well as 'providing means for the reception of the name of the brand of the cigar, advertising matter or other indicia.
Further objects of the invention are `to provide a combined display stand and cover for receptacles which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, readily supporting the receptacle, eiiicient and convenient in its use, readily connected to the receptacle andset up and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel conv struction, combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter mo-re specifically de-- scribed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes,I variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
4In the drawing, wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts v throughout the several views: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the combined display stand and receptacle cover, showing the adapation thereof in connection with a box containing cigars, Fig. 2 is a perspective view, broken away, of the cover section of the device,`Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the supporting section of the device, Fig. 4 is` an end view, broken away, and Fig. `5 is a transverse sectional view, broken away.
By way of example, the device is shown ,as supportlng'and displaying a box or receptacle containing cigars, but it is to be understood that the device can befemployed for any purposes wherein it is found a plicable and in the drawing the receptac e or box containin the cigars 1 is indicated 'by the reference ci had its cover removed and the box is supported at. an inclination, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1.
A combined display stand and cover for receptacles in accordance with this inventioncgnsists of a cover section and a supporting section, the former includes a cover member 3, having its forward end formed with a depending longitudinally extending' liange 4, which, when said cover is in closed position, as illustrated in Fig. ,4, e'ngages the front wall 5 of the box 2. ,The cover section further includesan upwardly and 'rearwardly inclined handle member 6, upon which can be placed or indicated the name of the brand of the cigar or the cost of the cigar, or other suitable advertising matter or indicia. The cover member and handle member are formed from one piece of material, the rear portion thereof being bent toaracter 2. The box 2 has. 65
provide the handle member. The coverV member is rectangular in contour, while the handle member,.preferably, is semi-circular in contour. The rear portion of the cover mem-ber 3 is cut away, as at 7 and the lower portion of the handle member 6 is clit away, as at 8. The cut away portions 7, 8 merge into each other, thereby providing an opening 9. Fixedly secured, to the front face, of the bend l() of the cover section are the ends of a pivot rod 11, the latter'extending across the lower portion of the openin 9.
As before stated, the handle mem er 6 may be provided with' suitable advertisingr matter or indicia, and in this connection the outer face of the cover member 3, can, if desired, -be provided with advertising matter or other indicia.
The supporting section of the device consists of a base member 12, having its forward end provided with an upwardly extending angularly disposed longitudinal flange 13, which is adapted to engage the front wall 5 rof t-he box, as clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 5. The base member lll 12 has-projectingfrom tbeirvear thereof, an upwardly 'extending and 4forwardmg miA outer face of the arm 14 and which has its lower end provided with a dat forwardly extending and downwardly inclined flange 18 upon which the rear of the bottom 19 of the box 2 is supported, said flanges 15, 16, providing said supporting section with a hook. V f
The supporting section of the device is coupled with the cover section, by the hook extending over the pivot rod 11 and into the box 2, at the rear thereof,`as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 5. The hook provides what may be termed a bearing for the rod 11 and said rod 11 and hook furthermore constitute a coupling means between the two sections of the device.
When the box 2 is coupled by the flanges to the supporting section, the box is disposed at an inclination, so that the contents thereof can be readily viewed, when the cover section is `shifted to raise the cover member.
- The cover member fulcruming upon the rear wall of the box 2; The flanges 16, 18 and 13 ixedly securethe box to the supporting section and so secure the box as to prevent lateral and long1tudinal movement thereof with respect to said supporting section.
What I claim is K 1. A combined display stand and cover for receptacles comprising a cover section and `a. supporting section, said cover including a cover member and a handle member integral with and angularly disposed with respect to each other, said members at their point of mergence cut away, said cut away portions registering to provide a longitudinally extending slot, said cover section further including a pivot rod extending across said slot 'and positioned adjacent to the lower wall thereof, said supporting section including a base member and an arm integral with and angularly disposed with respect to said base member, said arm rovided with a hook straddling said red etachablyv connecting said sections together` and said su porting section further includ' ing flanges or securing a receptacle thereto at an inclination, said cover member normally extending over the receptacle when the latter is secured to the supporting tion.
2. A combined display stand and cover for receptacles comprising a shiftablo cover section including a cover member, a handle member and a pivot rod, said cover section further provided with a longitudinallyl ex tending slot, said pivot rod extending across said slot and a supporting section including a plurality of flanges for connecting' and supporting a receptacle at an inclination 7 and further including a hook, said support: ing section extending up in said openin and said hook engaging with said pivot ro for connecting the sections together.
In testimony whereof I affix my vsigneture in the presence of two witnesses.
