PILE PLANKING 0F RLLED IRON.
APPLIUATION FILED SEPT. 24. 1912.

PETER '0E AACHEN, GERMANY, AssIGNon To MATHIAS scnnELEE, oF i AACHEN, GERMANY. r
To all whom t may concern.'
v Be it known that I, PETER SGHIEFIER, en-
' gineer, a subject ofthe King of Prussia, re
siding at N o. l .Stephanstrasse, Aachen, in`
the Kingdom of Prussia, Empire ofv Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pile-Planking of Rolled Iron; and I'do hereby .declare the following- -A to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the invention, such as V.Will enable-others skilled in the art to which it appertains to -planking in dilierent representation-forms.
' According to Fig. l the pile-planking con- I sists of approximate S-shaped sections equal vto one another which form mg of a trough-shaped cross-section, while in Fig.
In accordance with Fig; 3 a scalar-'iform pile-planking is formed of Z-shaped sections which are exactly like one another,- while in Fig. 4 two Z- places, 1s
shaped sections having differently formed ends, fserve for the producing'or manutanturing of the same planking.
In all representations the connecting places of the pile-planking are situated within its symmetrical axis, whereby the work of ramming is facilitated. In spite of this, the weake. g of the wall caused by the guiding only slight, as between two interrupted slanting walls, a full slanting wall is planking according to Figs. 3-4
always arranged. Especially, the pile'- advantage that the pointed edges of the i I planks exert a. wedge-like effect against outer 'edge ofthe plank, the .same is directly dipressure. If therefore any concussion or force Works or operates on the pointed onter vided into the two directions of the slanting walls and is then transferred to the abut- Amentof the back wall.
Each of the planks comprises approximately Z-shaped body portion 5 comprising a long member 10 having angular extensions Specification of'Letters Patent.'
a wall or plank- 2 a similar Wall is formed by two A'different sections or proles.
offers the i :PILE-PLANKING or' 'I'EoLLEnf IRoN.
Patented J an.'27, 1914.
Application filed September 24, 1912. 'Serial No. 722,115.
'11 thereon. vCarried, by these extensions of the body portion are thev means for interlocking the planks to form a structure. Upon one end of the'plank is formed a peculiarlyshaped head outwardly aring shoulder' 7. This head 6,
is adapted to be inserted into a socket 8, carried by another one of the planking units.
VThis socket is formed to make a sliding fit for; the head 6, and is provided with an inwardly turned member 9, which engages the shoulder 7, on the head 6. 'These interlocking ortions of the planking units are placed 6, provided with an 'y at t e abutting ends of the planking units.
The units may be provided with two. sockets,
with two heads or a head and a socket asdesired. These units are slid one vinto .the
other, the socket of one member receiving' Vthe head of the other member. Thus unfavorablev working strains or spans in the plank-cross-section areavoided. v
` Having thus described my invention, what I claim is plurality of detachable planking units',- each of the units consisting of a bar bent to form 'a relatively long portion',
a plurality ofrelatively shorter extensions oppositely disposed one at each edge, or they maybe provided- 1. A metallic nsheet lpiling comprising a with relation to said longer portion andV at angles thereto, interlocking fastening means carried by said shorter portions, said inter locking means comprising sockets formed with shoulders and-heads adapted to be inserted in the sockets. l
2. In a metallic sheet piling, the combination -with a plurality of separable units, of fastening meanscarried by saidunits, said `fastening means lying in the same plane, a plurality of relatively short angularly dis'- posed extensions adjacent each of said fastening means, a relatively longer'member connecting said shorter extension said member being oppositely and angularly disposed relative thereto.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence vof two subscribing witnesses.
PETER soHIEELEE.
