PILE-PLANKING OF ROLLED IRON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 27, 1914.
Application filed September 26, 1812- Serial No. 722,506.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, PETER SCHIFFLER, en-- many, have invented certain new and useful- Improvements in Pile-Planking of Rolled Iron; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and-exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
y present invention relates to improvements in a pile-planking of rolled iron such as described in the specification of an application filed by me and-bearing. the date of September 24th 1912, Serial No. 722,115, and the invention consists in that between the two guiding places lying in the neutral axis of the planking, there are in each plank two full slanting walls arranged, whereas in the application Serial No. 722,115 only one slanting wall is formed between the said places, so that in a finished pile-planking according to the present invention, one slanting Wall interrupted by a guide is followed by t'wo non-interrupted or full slanting walls. By this means the rolling of the plank is especially simplified.
The plank sections of the application Serial No. 722,115, represented in Figures 1 and 2 of the annexed drawings, are so manu' factured as to. have the XX axis of the sections lying parallel with the horizontal axis of the rollers. When such sections or profiles have left one tap-hole and are carried off by the rolling track of the rolling "ment with the following tion train, in order to be conducted into the next following narrower groove, difficulties are experienced on bringing the section in alinegroove, as theseoas, on account of its cross-section form, the disposition to tilt on the roller path or track and to take the position shown in Fig. 3, whereby the X-X axis comes into a gradient toward the axis of the rollers. It is therefore difficult to conduct the section into the next groove, because for this purpose the XX be brought into parallel position to the axis of the rollers, which requires a turning of the rolled bar to about 45 this being connected with great efforts. In Figs. 5 8 pile-plankings are represent ed which are composed of planks, being formed according to the present invention, each of which planks is provided with two uninterrupted full slanting walls. Upon one end of the plank is formed a peculiarly shape-d head 6, provided with.
an outwardly flaring shoulder 7. This head 6, is adapted to be inserted into a pocket 8, carried by another one of the planking units. This socket is formed to make a sliding fit for the head 6, and is provided with an inwhich engages the shoulder 7, on the head These interlocking portions of the planking units are placed at the abutting ends of the planking units. The units may be provided with two sockets,
