Since the attaching mem- 1 ber is made of some soft yielding material such as fabric it will be seen that when the hat fastener is in use and the hat-holding member is in operative position, there will be no projecting parts presented in which the hair can be caught.

To prevent the hat-holding member from being withdrawn from the guiding member, I employ a stop member in the form of one or more stitches 12 which extend through the opening in one of the arms 2 and 3 and are secured in the upper edge 9 of the attaching member. The guiding member may be secured to the attaching mem ber in any suitable way. The drawings show a guiding member having perforated wings 13 which are received between the layers 7 and S of fabric, and which may be secured to the fabric by stitches 14 passing through the perforations in said wings. Any other way of fastening the member to the attaching member might be employed, however, without departing from the invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A hat fastener comprising a guiding member having relatively unyielding walls, a forked hat-holding member slidable through said guiding member and provided at one end with a head by which it can be moved in the guiding member and an at- I protective wings, and a which protect said head and guiding member from being entangled in the hair.

2. A hat fastener comprising a guiding member, a forked hat-holding member slidable through the guiding member and provided at one end with a head, one arm of said hat-holding member being slotted, an attaching member formed of two layers of fabric between which the guiding member is confined, and to which said member is secured, the said layers extending below the lower end of the guiding member to form stop member secured to the upper edge of the attaching member and extending through said slot.
