PRESCRIPTION-FILE.
Leanser.
To all who/n 'it may concerny Be it known that I, VViLLIAM F. BEAIRD, a citizen of the United States, residing at liVichita, in the county of Sedgwick and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Prescription-Files, of which the following is a specification.
The general object of this invention is the provision of a prescription holder which is particularly adapted to be applied to a drawer for the purpose of retaining a plurality of prescriptions therein whereby the same will be prevented from curling and becoming torn or otherwise defaced when the said drawer is opened, said holder comprising', essentially, a rod which is detachably held in position by catches of novel construction.
In carrying out the object of the invention generally stated above, it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are susceptible to changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment being shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a top plan view of a drawer showing the invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a Vertical longitudinal sectional view therethrough. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig 1. Fig. 4 is a' detail perspective of one of the catches used in connection with the invention.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing in which like reference characters designate similar parts, 5 indicates a drawer of any well known construction which is adapted to be mounted in a cabinet or the like and 6 indicates a plurality of prescriptions which are placed in the drawer and held therein in a manner to be presently described.
One of the longitudinal sides of the drawer 5 is cut away as indicated at 1 andV secured to the bottom of the drawer adjacent this side and extending longitudinally thereof is a base plate 2 having rising therefrom a plurality of file posts 3. Each of the file posts 3 is provided with a hook like upper end 4, the short extremity of said end being provided with a reduced portion 4 which is adapted to engage an elongated slot 5 formed in a locking bar 6. As shown in Fig. 1, two of these locking bars are employed and each of the bars is provided with a slot 5 adjacent each end thereof. These Specification of Letters Patent.

locking bars are adapted to retain the prescriptions 6 in engagement with the file posts 3 and should it be desired to remove one of the prescriptions from the post, it is only necessaryto bend theadjacent posts toward each other until the reduced portions 4 thereof are in alinement with the enlarged recesses 7 of the slots 5', thereby permitting the locking bar 6 to be removed'and the prescription taken out. A
The front and rear ends of the drawer 5 have secured to their innerk surfaces adjacent the top and medially the ends thereof the catches 7 which are made from a single strip of suitable relatively thin metalhaving a slight degree of iieXibility. Each of the catches 7 comprises an elongated body portion 8 having at one end thereof ka laterally projecting prong 9 which is adapted to engage the end of the drawer and also having an opening 1() intermediate the ends thereof for the reception of a screw fastener 11 which is also adapted to retain the catch in engagement with the ends of the drawer. The catches arev arranged in a vertical position and each has its upper end provided with a depending flange 12 which is formed by bending the body 8 upon itself, said flange being provided at its extreme lower end with an arcuate notch 13.
After a number of prescriptions have been placed in the drawer and the latter is almost filled, it is a well known fact that the prescriptions or paper nearest the top of the pile often curl and when the drawer is withdrawn the prescriptions are often caught and torn sometimes rendering the same useless. In order to retain the prescriptions within the drawer so that the same will not become torn or defaced, a rod 14 of the required length is inserted into the drawer longitudinally thereof so that' the same will engage the top prescription and the ends ofsaid rod are forced into engagement with the arcuate notches 13 of the catches 7 thereby retaining said rod in engagement with the prescriptions and preventing the edges of the latter from projecting above the top of the drawer. When it is desired to removeany one of the prescriptions, it is only necessary to exert sufficient pressure upon the rod 14 to disengage the same from the catches thus permitin@ free access to the contents of the drawer.
The front end of the drawer' has detachably secured to its exterior surface a card holding plate 15 which is preferably rectangular in shape and is provided with an inturned annular flange 16 which is adapted to retain a Cardin engagement with the plate when the same is secured to the drawer. The plate 15 is provided with an opening 17 through which the indicia upon t-he card may readily be seen. One of the longitudinal edo'es of the plate 15 is provided centrally thereof with a projecting lug 18 having a laterally extending prong 19 which is adapted to engage the drawer to assist in retaining the plate in position'. The lug 1S is also provided with an opening 2O which is adapted to receive a screw fastener 21 having the head 22 whereby said fastener may be readily used for securing the plate in position and also removed-when desired.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that the invention contemplates providing a prescription holder for drawers which is simple in construction thus reducing the cost of manufacture of the same to a minimum and which is durable and effective in carrying out the purpose for which it is designed.
What is claimed is r- The combination with a drawer, a plurality of catches arranged in alinement longitudinally of the drawer, each of said catches being arranged wholly within the plane of the drawer and having a downturned flange terminally formed with a downwardly opening notch, a rod designed to engage said notches and freely movable downwardly and vertically7 of the drawer, said rod being held within the notches solely by the upward pressure of the articles in the drawer.
In testimony whereof I aiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLAM F. BEAIRD.
