INTERIOR CASKET.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANCIS M. Hum- PI-IREY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pendleton, in the county of Umatilla and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Interior Gasket, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to interior caskets, one of its objects being to provide a structure of this character made of a wire fabric and which is designed tobe placed inside of a wooden box and to "receive the corpse, whereby, should the box rot after a long burial, the corpse can be disinterred without the use of any special appliances and without unduly disturbing it, simply by lifting the wire interior casket from the box.

With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.

In said drawings :Figure 1. is a side elevation of the interior casket. Fig. 2 is a plan View thereof. Fig. 3 is a section through a portion of one side thereof. Fig. 4 is aview similar to Fig. 3 but showing a slightly modified form.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates an interior casket preferably formed of heavy metal fabric. This interior casket is of any desired proportions and is provided, along its top edges, with outstanding flanges 2, each flange being formed preferably of a channeled strip of metal in which the outturned edge of the metal fabric is seated, as shown particularly in Fig. 3. Bolts 3 extend upwardly through the flanges 2 at desired intervals and may be secured to the flanges in any preferred manner. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the heads of the bolts bear upwardly against the flanges 2. The interior casket is provided with a cover 1 likewise preferably formed of a strong metal fabric and the edges of this fabric cover are reinforced by means of channeled strips 5 similar to Specification of Letters Patent.

the strips 2, The edges of the fabric extend into the strips 5 and are secured therein by pressure, by solder, or by bolts.

Apertured loops 6 are arranged on the strips 5 at desired intervals, these loops being pivotally engaged by rings or handles 7. The apertures in the loops 6 are adapted to register with apertures 9 formed in the strips 5 and these apertures are so positioned as to receive the bolts 3. The upper ends of the bolts 3 are threaded so as to be engaged by nuts 10. Obviously, after the corpse has been placed in the interior casket, the cover is put in place with the bolts extending through the strips 5 and the loops 6 and the parts are then secured firmly together by means of the nuts 10. The interior casket can then be raised or lowered by means of the handles or rings 7 and is adapted to be placed in the usual box which serves to house it in the grave. As before stated, should the box rot after a long burial and it should be desired to disinter the corpse, no difliculty will be experienced as the metal interior casket formed of the wire fabric or the like can be easily raised from the rotted box without disturbing the contents of the interior casket.

Instead of constructing the interior casket as described, the handles or rings 11, one of which has been shown in Fig. 4, can be held to the cover 12, by metal straps 13. Each strap is provided with a portion interwoven with the fabric constituting the body of the interior casket and with another portion which extends downwardly under the flange 14 of the interior casket and extends upwardly and onto the top of the reinforcing strip 15 of the cover, this strip 15 being similar to the strips 5 and the flange 1 1 being similar to the flanges 2. In this construction when the handle is grasped and elevated, the load is transferred therefrom to the walls and bottom of the interior casket by the straps 13.

What is claimed is 1. An interior casket consisting of a metal fabric having its upper edges outturned forming a flange along the top of the interior casket, a channeled strip receiving said flange and extending around the interior casket, a cover including a metal fabric and a channeled reinforcing strip receiving the edges of the fabric, handles secured to said reinforcing strips, and means engaging said channeled strips for binding the same together.

2. An interior casket formed of metal fabric having its upper edges outturned to form flanges extending around the interior casket, a channeled strip receiving said flanges and extending around the interior casket, a cover consisting of a metal fabric and a channeled strip receiving the edges of the fabric, loops upon said last named channeled strip, handles engaged by the loops, and means extending through the channeled strips of the interior casket and cover and through the loops for binding the 1 FRANCIS M.
