CHAIN-MOLD.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IsRAiL LnnLANo, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Chain-Molds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to molds and more particularly to chain molds, the object of the invention being the'provision of a simple and efiicient device of this character whereby the separate links of a chain may be molded into interlocked or linked engagement wit-h each other, thus avoiding the necessity of welding each link.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character having a channel for the reception of the end link of .the last molded section which permits the sections to be connected together without welding.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view showing the parts of the mold in open position. Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the mold partially closed. ig. 3 is a perspective view of the mold in closed position. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken through the device .when closed.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1, 2, 3 and 4 represent the sections of the mold which are made preferably of steel or other suitable metal. Each section is substantially rectangular in cross section and all of the sections are connected together by hinges 5 in such manner that all of the sections are adapted to fold together as shown in Fig. 3 to form an enlarged rectangular cross section. The sections 1 and 2 are provided upon their faces 6 with coacting semicircular half grooves 7 which coact with similar semi-circular half coves 8 formed on the faces 9 of the sections 3 and 14. The grooves 7 and 8 are adapted to coact to form complete circular metal receiving channels adapted to receive the metal through the ports 10 formed partially in the faces 6 and 9 of the sections 1 and 4 and partially in the outer faces 11 of said sections. The sections 1 and 2 are provided with semicircular half grooves 12 in their inner faces 13 and the sections 3 and 4 have similar semi-circular half grooves 14: in their inner faces 15 which are adapted to coact wit-h the grooves 12 to form complete circular channels adapted to receive metal through ports 16 formed partially in the faces 13 of the sect-ions 1 and 2 and partially in the outer faces 17 of said sections. A suitable lockin device 18 connects the sections 1 and 4, as s own, so as to lock the parts in operative position and the faces 6 and 9 of the sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 are provided with quarter grooves 19 and 20 which coact to form a semi-circular channel open at the end of the mold and adapted to receive the last link of the previously cast section of the chain so that this section may be connected with the next section cast. It will be noticed that the grooves 12 andlet and the grooves 7 and 8 are interlocked so that when the mold is opened after the mold is cool it will be found that the links of the chain areconnected together in the usual manner and without welding.
lVhat is claimed is:-
A chain mold comprising a plurality of sections, each having a rectangular cross section, each section having semi-circular half grooves and being hinged to corners of adoining sections, the grooves adapted to coact with grooves upon other members to produce complete circular channels, hinges for pivotally connecting the sections together whereby they may be folded into operative position to cause the grooves to coact, means carried by certain of the section for locking the sections in operative posi ion and semi-circular grooves on certain of the sections which coact to form a semicircular channel open to the atmosphere and adapted to receive the last link of a previously molded chain section.
