Application filed September 27, 1912.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WARNER G. HULT, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at the city of J amestown, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Gurtain-Rollers, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.
The invention relates to tubular or sheet metal curtain rollers for window shades; and the object of the improvement is to provide a simple and durable spring shade roller'construction which is strong and adjustable to different widths of curtains, and provides a simple and convenient means for attaching the curtain fabric to the roller, and the invention consists in the construction and combination of the parts as shown and described in this specification and the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the curtain roller showing the tubular telescoping parts and the lengthwise groove therein to hold the parts in line; and Fig. 2 is an elevation showing the lengthwise slot for attaching the curtain fabric. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the curtain roller with the curtain fabric attached thereto by means of clips; and Fig. at is a perspective View of one of the clips. Fig. 5 is a crosswise sectional view of the curtain pole at line X X in Fig. 3 showing the arrangement of the curtain fabric as inserted through the slot in the tubular roller and the holding clip in position against the same; and Fig. 6 is an elevation of the cap or ring for covering the L-shaped slots and holding all the parts in place.
Like numerals of reference refer to corresponding parts in the several views.
The numeral 20 designates one of the sheet metal tubular parts of the shade roller, and the numeral 21 the other part. The inner end 22 of the part 20 is reduced slightly in size so that it fits closely within the part 21, and a groove 23 is formed lengthwise of the reduced part 22 and also in the part 21 so that they fit perfectly into one another holding the two parts in line even in an eX- tended position. with the usual flattened supporting pin 24 at one end and the round supporting pin 25 at the other.
To attach the curtain or shade fabric 26 to the shade roller a continuous slot 27 is provided lengthwise of the two parts 20 and 21, preferably opposite the groove 23. A holding clip 28 is provided which has the lugs 29 struck therefrom and the oppositely extending flanges 30. The lugs 29 are a spaced distance from the flanges 30 so that they hold within the sheet metal roller, and it is apparent that the clips 28 may be pressed through the slot 27 one side of the fabric 26 at spaced distances, the lugs 29 being upon one side of the clip 28 will press the sides of the sheet metal slot apart until they snap over the lugs 29 thereby holding the clip 28 firmly in place. The spring of the sheet metal roller presses the clip 28 firmly against the fabric 26, thereby firmly holding said fabric and attaching it to the shade roller. It is apparent that the clips 28 may be pressed into place by manual pressure thereby easily attaching the shade fabric to the roller.
I claim as new 1. A shade roller comprising a sheet metal tube having a lengthwise slot therein for the insertion of the end of the curtain fabric within said tube, and holding clips pressed through said slot along side said fabric to hold the same against the edge of the sheet metal.
2. A curtain roller comprising sheet metal tubular telescoping parts having a lengthwise slot therein to receive the curtain fabric, and holding clips having projections thereon to be pressed through said slot into said tubular parts along side said fabric and hold on the inner side of said tubular parts.
3. A curtain roller comprising a sheet metal tube having a lengthwise slottherein to receive the curtain fabric, holding clips for said curtain fabric having flanges, and lugs on said clips a spaced distance from said flanges to be pressed through said slot and hold within said tube.
