REVERSIBLE BOX-STRIKE FOR LOCKS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES R. FLETCHER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reversible Box-Strikes for Locks, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a strike plate of the box type which is reversible for use with either right or left hand doors.

is a view in central vertical section, showing the boxes in reverse position.
Referring to the drawings, a denotes the strike plate which is of the reversible pattern and apertured as at I), c, to receive the latch and lock bolts. (Z, c, are the boxes fitting in these apertures Z) 0, having flanges f which bear against the plate, and if desired apertured at the bottom to receive a screw by means of which they may be secured in place so that they will not be jarred out of position. These boxes are stamped up out of sheet metal, and, as is clearly illustrated, are removable from the apertures, fitting into them from either side to make it possible to reverse the plate to accommodate either right or left hand doors. Of course it is not essential that the boxes be made of sheet metal, though this is the most economical method of their manufacture since Specification of Letters Patent.

I claim as my invention l. The combination with a reversible strike plate suitably apertured, of a box removably fitting within said aperture from either side of said plate.
2. The combination with a reversible strike plate suitably apertured, of a box removably fitting within said aperture from either side of said plate, and a lateral flange at the edge of the box adapted to lie against the face of the plate.
3. The combination with a door casing, of a strike plate adapted to be fitted'in position in said casing and having suitable apertures therein, recesses in said casing in alinement with the apertures, removable boxes adapted to fit in said apertures from either side of said plate, a flange about the edge of said boxes adapted to lie against the face of the plate, and means for securing said boxes to said casing to hold them in position in said plate.
