GRAVITY TOILET-PAPER DELIVERING MEANS AND CUTTER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CLARENCE E. ANABLE, a citizen of the .United States, residing at Sacramento, in the county of Sacramento, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gravity Toilet-Paper DeliveringMeans and Cutters; and I do declare the following to be a clear, full, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it a-ppertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.

This invention relates to improvements in means for delivering toilet paper from a roll and cutting the same, the object of the invention being to produce a means for the purpose whereby a roll comprising a continuous strip of unperforated paper may be used in such a manner that the paper will at all times be within reach and when grasped and pulled will automatically deliver a sufficient amount and cut the same, the mechanism then operating to throw the paper again within reach ready for the repetition of the above operation, which as will be seen will effect a great saving both in the cost of manufacturing the paper due to the avoidance of the necessity of perforating it and also only a fixed amount of the paper will be delivered at any one time, thus doing away with waste and loss.

A further object of the invention is to produce a mechanism which will operate freely and easily under all conditions and one in which there will be no chance of the same breaking or becoming inoperative due to the ignorance of the person using the same, since all that is necessary to operate the device, is that the operator grasp and pull the projecting piece of paper and the cutting and delivering will follow this operation automatically.

A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purposes for which it is designed.

These objects, I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of the parts as will fully appear by a persual of the following specification and claim.

Figure 1 is an end view in section of the complete device. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on a line XX of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on a line YY of Fig. 2.

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, I provide first a partly inclosed case or holder consisting of end members 1 disposed over the upper portion of which is a partly circular hood 2 which leaves an open space 8 at the lower end between the ends 1 for the insertion of the paper roll as will appear. This casing is adapted to be fastened in any suitable manner to the wall or other similar places 4. Along the lower front edge of the hood 2 is a horizontal cutting blade 5. Projecting vertically in each of the ends 1 is a slot 6 having a downwardly curving portion 7 communicating with receiving brackets 8 adapted to receive pins 9 on a roller 10. Said pins 9 are disposed eccentrically on said roller 10 for the purpose as will appear. On one end of the roller 10 is disposed a disk or flange 11 which has a counter-weight 12 on one side, which counter-weight 12 will of course at all times remain at the lower portionof the device.

On said counter-weight is a lug 18, which when said disk 11 is rotated will strike a lug 14 at the upper end of one of the ends 1 before such counter-weight 12 passes the center of gravity, which would carry it down on the other side, and thus the said counterweight 12 will always drop back in normal position, which normal position is determined by another lug 15 on the counter weight 12 striking a corresponding lug 16 on the lower end of one of the ends 1. Thus the movement of the disk 11 and the counterweight 12 and roller 10 is limited to the are between the lugs 14 and 16.

In practice the paper roll 17 is made with one continuous strip of paper without perforation and is mounted on the roller 10 by any suitable frictional means and a projecting portion 18 projects normally below the hood 2 and against the blade 5. Then when it is desired to use the same, the operator grasps the projecting portion 18 and pulls it. This rotates the roll 17, roller 10 and the disk 11 until the lug 13 engages the lug 14:, which brings the rotating motion to an end and the frictional contact of the paper 17 against the blade 5 causes the same to be cut. The counter-weight 12 then drops back until the lug 15 strikes the lug 16 and this operation carries the paper 17 from its contact with the blade 5 in approximately a half circle and hence a portion of said paper will again drop 0E of the roll and project as at 18 through the opening in the hood 2 and in close proximity to the blade 5.

The roller 10 being mounted in an eccentric manner in the pins 9 would aid in the perfect operation of the device as above set forth.

From the foregoing description it will readily be seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfils the objects of the invention as set forth herein.

While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A device of the character described comprising a holder, a cutting blade onsaid holder, a shaft mounted in said holder, a roller disposed in an eccentric manner on said shaft, a disk on said roller, a counter weight on said disk, means mounted on said disk and on said holder and adapted to limit I the movement of said disk whereby said shaft will move in a predetermined arc and return each time to normal position, as described.
