"ln 1 IIIAI M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I
HENRY A. MEYER, 0F HELENA, MONTANA.
SEPARABLE FASTENER.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY A. MEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at ,Helena, in the county of Lewis and Clark and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in separable Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in buttons and more part1cu larly to that class known as separable fasteners, the object of the invention being to provide a button compr1s1ng two parts, each of which are secured to separate pieces of material whereby the said pieces of material may be quickly and easily fastened together and securely held in set position.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a button of the above character whereby two pieces of material may be securely fastened together and which will not only hold the material in position, but can be quickly and readily released.
A further object of the invention 1s to provide a button of the above character which will possess advantages in points of efficiency and durability, is inexpensive of manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combinatlon and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view of the button; Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same; Fig. 3 is a top plan View of the fastening member; Fig. l is a similar view showing the movable plate in its open posilion; and Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view of the fastening member. the button being shown in dotted lines in its second position.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the button, which is provided with an annular base flange 2 having a plurality of circularly arranged openings 3 formed therein by means of which the button is secured to the material. Projecting outwardly from the base flange 1 is the shank 4 having a suitable head 5 formed at the outer end thereof and provided with the shoulders 6 against which the tfastening Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 24, 1913.
Patented J an. 6, 1914.
Serial No. 750,314.
In the practical operation of my improved device, the button 1 and the fastener 7 are applied so that they are disposed in opposed relation. The fastener 7 is engaged with the button by moving the plate 16 outwardly and passing the head of the button into the body 8 so that the shank 4 is disposed within the recess 15 formed in the rigid plate 13. The plate 16 is then swung to its locked position. as shown in Fig. 3, so that the apexes of the two plates are engaged beneath the shoulder 6 which will absolutely prevent the removal of the head 5 from the fastener. When it is desired to release the button, the plate 16 is swung outwardly by engaging the lug 18 with any suitable object.
From the above it will be seen that sepa- I simple in construction and can be manufactured at a comparatively low cost.
lVhile I have shown and described the n'eferred form of my invention, it Will be obrious that Various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice Without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A separable fastener including a headed button and a fastener comprising a circular body member adapted to receive the head of a button, an annular flange formed upon said body and provided With a plurality of openings, a ring secured to the flange and arranged in spaced relation therewith, a rigid and a movable plate disposed in a horizontal position and arranged in opposed relation, said plates being of substantially triangular form and having their apexes projecting inwardly toward the center of the ring, the apexes of said plates being pr0- vided with curved recesses to receive the shank of the headed button, the apeXes of said plates being arranged directly above the center of the circular body and said movable plate being adapted to detachably engage the head of the button to retain the same Within the body.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
