ron'rABLE PIQTURE-GALLERY.
To all whom) it may concern:
' Be it known thatrwe; FREDERICK D. SEARS nesota, have invented certain new; and useful Improvements in Portable Plcture- Gala leries; and we .do herebydeclare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable othersskilled in theart to which itappertains t Our invention has 1 for its object toipro vide a'simple and efiicientiportable-moving picture gallery and t6 such; ends, generally" stated, the invention consists'of the novel devices and combinations "of devicesherein.-
after' described and defined in the elairns.-
More particularly, as stated, our invention comprises a 'gallery 'or compartment ;'froin'whicl i external light is cut off, having an internal screenonto' 'Which the pictureis projected, and the-gallery creasing having' a plurality of peek-holes through which the projected; picture on the-screen may be seen by' persons standing outs de of the casing.
This improved gallery or apparatus shin what we at present believe to be its prekferred form, is illustrated in. the accompany? ing drawings, wherein like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views."
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1: 1s a view partly in side elevation and-partly ih' vertical section, showing the complete portableand extensible gallery; Fig.2 is an end elevationof the gallery looking at the same. from the right toward the leftin' respect to Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 0: :12 of Fig. '1; Fig. 41s a transverse-vertical section taken on 'the line (B4 a? ofFig. 1';'
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view in horizontal section on. the line :2 m of Fig. 2.; and Fig.
' p 6 is an elevation of-the-pa'rts shown in Fig.
5 and Fig. 7' and 1s a fragmentary View in section on the line in :0 of-Fig. 4:.
The gallery illustrated is a: double ended structure in which the pictures onthe screen i may be viewed from'both ends of'the casing or from both slde'sof the screen andit comprises" main body sections 1, andextensible sections 2, 3 aud t, which isections-in-the' order indicated are made successively smaller in diameter and are arranged to elescope one into the other. The screen Specification of Letters Pateiiti I Pafente lj)c, 30 1913, Application filediAugust 26, 1912.- Serial No. 716,972).
ring' or frame 6. The'ring 6 is situated in the plurality 'of retaining forks 7, having threaded stems PIJOJQCtlIIg outward through one of the main caseseotions 1 and secured thereto by nuts 8. The tivo main case sections' 1 are preferably detachably connected,
this being accomplished by means of flanged hoops 9, secured to the abutting edges of saidmasesections 1 and bolted or otherwise rig dly butdetachablv; connected. Ilhe said body sections 1 are shon'nas supported by suitable framework 10 and the vertical legs of which.arepassed through-lugs 11 on support1ng=yokes 11, the legs being secured :theretofby "set screws 12,'th'at permit vertical adjustments of the said yokes 11, and hence, of the entire gallery. 'The case seei and 4,iw'hen extended, are supported'from the"main--ca'se sections 'l by c'hainsor cables 13.- v
On'e of the outer'and smaller of the-case sections 4' isprovided with axially located light passagesor perforations l and the housing l5, of the moving picture machine is secured to this "case-section 4 in positli n to project the; picture rays through the adiacent passage lt'a'nd onto the screen 5. as l indicated 3 by the radiating dotted lines marked Y on Fig. 1. i he chain or cable 16 also connects the housing. tp one ofthe "main casesections 1 and assists insupport- .ing the-same in proper working position. g The several sections of the casing. except the section 4 to which thepicture apparatus 'iscmne'cted, are formed each with a plurality of peek-holes" 17. in their annular vertical outer endfaces, (see Fig. 2i. Freterably, veach peek-hole 1? is normally closed by a-i erticallv movable shutter 18-. having a' pe rforation 19.,as adapted. to' register with the peek-hole 17 when the said shutter-is held in a raised position. t
The picture projectedonthe tr nslucent screen 5,'will be visible on both sides thereof andhence, may be-simultaneou'slv "iewed by a large number of people, to-wit. as many people as there are peck-holes looking onto the galler from both ends of the carsing sections. or frmn both sides of the screen.
in Fig". 3. the numeral 20 indicates a peckhole for theopcrator, located-in the end of 5 l the small case section 4, to which the picture projecting a picture gallery and iachine is attached. This peek-hole 20, as shown, is provided with normally closed shutter 21.
When it is desired to more the gallery or apparatus from place to place the sections 1, 2, .3 and i may be tclcscoped together; and whenever the apparatus must be passed through a narrow passage. such as a doorway, which is wider than the length of the two body sections 1, the said sections 1 may .be separated. It is thought that friction projecting a picture onto said screen, said gallery having peek holes through which the picture on said screen may be viewed by persons on the exterior of said gallery, the said gallery being collapsible and having means for holding it extended. 2. The combination of a. gallery or inclosure and a screen therein,--of means for onto said screen, said gallery having peek-holes through which the picture on said screen maybe viewed by persons on the exterior of said gallery, said gallery being made up of an extensible andcontractible casin 3. The combination of a gallery made up iof extensible sections ofvaryin'g diameter,
with a screen applied onthe larger section of said gallery, and a picture machine applied to thesinaller section of said gallery. andarranged to project pictures into said onio'said screen, said gallery having peek-holes in its extensible sections, through which pictures on said screen may -be viewed from' theexteriorof said gallery.
4. The combination of a gallery or inclosure and a screen therein, of means for.
projecting a picture onto said screen, sait gallery having peek-holes through which the picture on said screen may be viewed by persons on the exterior of said gallery, .and the said peek-holes having automatically closed shutters.
5. The combination with a gallery made up with telescopically connectcd sections of materially different diameter, of asereen applied in thelarger section of saidgallery, and a picture apparatus associated with the smaller section of said gallery and arranged to project pictures into said gallery and onto gallery 1n said screen, the sections of said their outer end portions, having peek-holes, through which .the pidture' on said screen may be viewed by persons at the exterior of said gallery.
6.-lhe combination of. the gallery made up of a relatively large intermediatesection and exten ible sections of decreasingdiameter, adapted to be projected from both ends thereof, ot'atranslucent. screen in the said main section, and' a picture apparatus associated with the smaller section at one end of said gallery, arrangedto project pictures into said gallery and onto said screen, the sections of said gallery on both sides of said screen having peek-holes through which the picture on. both sides of said screen may be viewed by persons on the outside of said gallery. 4
7.. he combination of a gallery made up of a relatively largeintermediate section and extensible sections of decreasing adapted to be projected from 0th ends thereof, of a translucent screen in the said ain section, ciated with the smaller section at one end of said gallery, arranged to project pictures into said gallery and onto said screen, the sections of said gallery on both sides-of said screen having peek-holes through which the picture'on both sides of said'screen may be viewed; by persons on the outside of said gallery, and the said main section ofsaid mately at its central portion. 8. Thecombination with a gallery and a screen therein, the casing of said gallery being formed by approximately cylindrical sections decreasing successively in diameter in a'conimon direction, and the said sections in their ends having peek holes. through which ictures on the screen-may be viewed from tiie exterior of the" allery, an a picture apparatus associate section of the" said gallery and arranged to project pictures into said gallery and onto I said screen. 4
In testimony whereof we afli-x our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
