I To all 'whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RAYMOND RASBACH, a citizen of the United States, residing at 305 King street, Herkimer, in the county .of Herkimer and State of New York, have invented certain .new and useful Improvements in Sewing-lilachines, lof which the following is a speciication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing..

My invention relates to an improvement in sewing machines, and I5 declare that the following is a full, clear, concise and exact descript-ion thereof, suicient to enable one skilled in the art, to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which like characters refer to like parts throughout.

The invention is shown as applied to a Merrow sewing machine although it is equally applicable to other'machines, where a'moving part reciprocates on a given base.

In the drawings, Figure 1 has a front view of the face plate or -rame-cap of a machine. Fig. 2, isa rear viewvof the same.

In order to avoid that necessity, I cut out they .plate to form two square grooves,"lengthwise the line of travel of titi block t; in which I place bearing blocks 8 and 9, which are square in cross-section and are made particularly to sustain the wearof the block a. As one edge of each of these blocks becomes worn the block may be removed from its groove, turned quarter way around and replaced so that a new wearing surface is provided. This adjustment may be continued until each of the four surfaces has been used. After this, it may be turned end for end, and the same course followed in presenting different faces to the wear of the block, since the block travels only about half of the distance across the plate, the major part ofthe wear, coming upon one-half the length of the block.

Having described my invention, which vI claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: .Y

1. In a sewing machine, a face-plate having grooves cut therein, rectangular in cross sect-ion, and bearing-bars, rectangular in cross-section, placed in said grooves and being interchangeable to present any of four faces.

2. In a sewing machine, the combination of a face-plate having an aperture cut for `ment of a traveling mechanism, the plate having a groove rectangular in cross-section and lengthwise of the 'travel of said mechanism, anda bar adapted for the support of the traveling mechanism and adapted to be converted end for end .and to present any of four surfaces to-l the said mechanism whereby such bar may be placed to present any of eight wearing surfaces to the wear 'of said mechanism. i In testimony whereof' I hereunto aix my signature in-the presence ot two witnesses.
