T FEE PIN-TONGUE HOLDER.
To all a 710m it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS W. JOHN- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Attleboro, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pin-Tongue Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a spring retainer for the end of the pin tongue the said spring retain-er being secured to the back plate of the pin, by means of a clasping piece soldered or otherwise attached to the plate, and having its ends turned inwardly over the base of the spring retainer, as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side view of a jewelry pin provided with my improved spring retainer for holding the tongue. Fig. 2 represents a 01 ward end view. Fig. 3 represents a longitudinal section. Fig. 4 represents a side view of the spring retainer. Fig. 5 represents a top view of the same. Fig. 6 represents a side view of the intermediate holding piece for the retainer, shown in its outspread condition. Fig. 7 represents a top view of the same.
In the drawing, a represents the foundation back plate of a jewelry pin, 5 the pin tongue, and c the joint piece, which is suitably attached to the back plate a. At the opposite end of the said back plate, is soldered or otherwise attached the holding piece 6, which is first formed up from sheet r 0 metal as shown in Fl 's. 6 and 7 and havin 7 D 7 b Specification of Letters Patent.

a struck up center f, which serves as a guide for the proper connection of the spring retainer g, thereto, the said retainer being formed with the opposite inwardly bent spring arms h, ii, and provided with the struck up recess 2', at its central portion adapted to receive the center f of the holding piece 6. The ends j, j, of the said holding piece are turned inwardly, over the edges of the said spring retainer, as shown in Fig. 3, whereby the said retainer may be connected to the back plate without effecting its spring temper. The retainer when so formed and attached constitutes a valuable improvement, on account of its slight cost and the surety and convenience of its operation.
I claim as my invention.
in a jewelry pin, the combination of the back plate, and an attached holding piece provided with a struck up center, with a retainer provided with inwardly turned spring arms and a center having a struckup recess receiving the said struck-up center of the holding piece, the said retainer being held transversely of the holding piece and of the axis of the back plate, by means of the ends of the said holding piece being folded inwardly over the center of the said retainer, in the direction of the axis of the back plate.
