l citizen of the United States, residing at Hopedale, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented an improvement in Cloth-Beams, of which the following description, in connection with the iccompanying drawings, is a specilica tion, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.
This invention relates to looms, and more particularly to the cloth beam upon which the cloth is'wound as it is woven.
1t is desirable lthat the end of the cloth first woven be conveniently connected to the cloth beam so that as the latter is rotated during thel operation of the loom it will wind the cloth thereon. When a desirable length of cloth has been woven and wound on the cloth beam it is desirable that the beam be removed from the roll ot' cloth without the necessity ot unwinding the cloth therefrom and without materially disturbing the convolutio-ns of the cloth roll.
With these and other objects in view the aims and purposes of the present invention are primarily to provide means, whereby the end of the cloth may be conveniently attached to the cloth beam, and the cloth wound thereon, and whereby also when the desired amount of cloth has been woven vand wound on the beam, the cloth roll may be readily and conveniently removed from the beam Without disturbing the convolutions thereof, all of which will best be made clear from the following description and accompanying drawings of one form of means for carrying the invention into practical er'ect, it being understood that details may vary within the true scope of the invention, which is definitely set forth by the claims.

rlhe loom frame may be of any usual or desired :term and character, and since the present invention is directed to the cloth beam and its associated parts, only so much of the .loom frame and thc'weaving` mechanism is shown, as seem necessary to make clear the present invention and its relation thereto. The Stands 1 at either side ofthe loom frame are provided with brackets or other like supports 2, 3, for sustaining the cloth beam and its holding and operating means. Rotatably mounted in a suitable bearing 4 supported by the bracket 2, is a shaft or rotatable member 5, Fig. 1, havintgr fixed thereto the friction wheel 6, Fig. 5, about the periphery of which passes the friction straps 7 and 8, one end of each being secured to an arm 9 projecting from the hub of a sprocket wheel 10 loosely mounted on thershaft 5. As one means for connecting the friction bands '7, and 8 to the arm 9 of the sprocket wheel, said armf) may be provided with pins 11 and 12about which the hooked ends 13 and 11i of the said straps may engage, substantially as indicated by Fig. 5. The other ends l5 and 16 ofthe friction bands T and 8 are turned outward and are connected by a clamping1 device, which, in the form of the invention illustrated, comprises a screw bolt 17 passed through the ends 15 and 16 of the straps and having a nut 18 on one end portion and a cam lever 19, pivote-d at 2() to the other end, the construction being' such that by swinging the lever 19 into the position shown, the Vends of the straps 7 and 8- may be drawn toward each other and Sad straps be caused to bind upon the friction wheel 6. By adjusting the nut 18 the degree of frictional resistance to relative movement between the straps andfriction bands may be varied to suit vconditions of use.
The sprocket wheel 10 mav be driven from any suitable power as by the sprocket chain 21, which, if desired, may be connected with the usual sand roll, not shown, but well understood by those skilled in the art. It desired also the friction straps 7 and 8 may be lined with suitable friction material 22, such'as leather orthe like.
