IMPROVEMENT IN EXTENSION TRUNKS.

The Schedule referred to in these Lettera Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, JAMES RICE, of Middletown, in thecounty ot' Vigo and State of' Indiana, have invented a new and useful Extension Trunk; and I do hereby declare that the following is a fullclear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

rlhis invention relates to trunks, and hasfor its object to produce a trunk capable ot' being enlarged or diminished in size or bullgaccording to the quantity of goods to bc transported therein, thus enabling it to be more solidly packed, thereby preventing the trunk from liability of breakage, as also keeping the goods in positron while in transit; and to this end My invention Aconsists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts of which my invention is composed, as will be hereinafter specifically designated and set forth in the following specication and claim.

'llie part B has guides, l1 b, upon its external surface, adapted to grooves within the inner surface of the upper part A, the object of these guides being to cause the parts to .work evenly together, and to secure perfect action on the partot' the levers and spring latches.

A rod, F, made of metal, of sutiicient strength and durability, is secured, one at cach end ot' the lower trunk-box, by nuts c c, their upper ends havingspring catches j' f, to register with the notches in the plates a a, operated by arms 1) D, attached to levers of the upper pai-t of thextrunk A.

At each end of thc trunk B is a wedge, G, its oflice being to hold the lever E, wnicli operates spring catches f f, out from the notches in the plates a a. When itis desired to adjust the trunk, the levers rest upon the enlarged end of the wedges.

By the means herein described, the trunk may he adjusted ywith convenience and facility.

What Iclaim, and desire to secure by Letters latont ot' the Unit-ed States, is

1. The part B of a trunk, having spring catches f f in combination with the part A, when provided with the slotted plates a a, substantially as shown and described,
