IMPROVEMENT IN GATES.-
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
We, SIMON REGA'N-and EDWARD Mnnsv, of Lamotte, Jackson county, Iowa, have invented certain Improve'mentsin Gate-Hinges, of' Whichthe following is a specification.
Figure l is a view in perspective;
Figure 2 is a partial planview; vand Figure 3 is a detached sectional elevation.
This invention consist-s in the combination of a fence-post xed in theI earth, a vertical beam fastened to the vfence-post by screw-bolts, two or more metal bands loosely inclosing the beam, so as to slide thereon, and a gate provided at one end withl two or more angle-plates, when `the angle-plates are conneotedwith the metal bands aforesadby means of hinges, so that the gate Vmay be swung; may be raised for the purf pose of placing it above snow or uneven ground, and lowered again when necessary; and may, byits weight, fasten the sliding bauds upon the vertical beam in whatever position the gate may be placed.
In the drawing- A is thefence-post;
a, the vertical beam ;l
b, the bolts which fasten the beamto the post;
cc, the metal bands which loosely inclose the beam a al, rthe end post; v
'c e, the angle-plates secured upon the post d and f f, the hinges which' connect the bauds c and plates e. v
By sliding the bands c on the beam a, the gate may be placed in any desired position, and when so placed, ,the weight of the gate clamps the hands cupon the beam, so as .to prevent further vertical movement of the gate until thebands c are again moved by hand. r We claim as our invention.
The fence-post A, vertical beam @sliding bands c, inclosing the beam a andformng part of the hinges, Agate-post d, angleplates e, partially inclosng the gatepost and forming the remaining parts of the hinges, -all these parts being constructed and arranged as described. i SIMON REGAN.
