FRANCIS C. CONE, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
Letters Patent No. 108,109, dated October 11, 1870; antedatod October 5, .1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN CANDLESTICKS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and makizig part of the same.
nearly appertaius to make and use my said invention or improvement without further invention or experiment.
My invention relates to an improved device for sup-' porting and holding candles, and which I call an adjustable candlestick.
It consists in bending the wires forming the candlestick in such a manner as to form shoulders for the support of acbimney or screen, and in twisting together the scveial wires. so as to form a firm central each other, and are united by twistingtogether, so
that they form a perfectly solid central leg or support B.
At the point C the wires again separate, and are bent outward, and the bights of the two are curved, o that they form a sort of cup orcylindr-sbaped frame, as at C C, and will thus clasp and hold a can- This holding portion may be opened or closed at p1easure,'so that different sizes of candles may be used. i 1
In order to prevent the dripping of tallow or wax a cup, D, is fastened around the central leg B to receive the waste.
If it is desired to use the candle out of doors, a screen or chimney, E, may be employed, being of such a' size as to slip down over the cup D, and just clasp the vertical portion 1) of the standards,* before described.
' .The chimney may be oi metal or glass, as most suitable, and it may have clasps to hold it in place, if necessary.
A candlestick constructed in this manner is cheap, cannot be melted out, nor "broken by falling, and is easily cleaned.
I do not claim, broadly, a candlestick made of wire, and having an adjustable holder formed of the same; but
What I.do claimas my invention and improvement in ivire-candlesticks is-- Forming shoulders, as at 11, adapted to hold-a chimmay or screen, and twisting together the several wires, so as to form a firm central column for the support of the candle-holder and candle above, substantially a described.
' In witness whereof I have hereunto-set my hand
