STOCK-FEEDING DEVICE.
Application filed February 24. 1913. Serial No. 751,146.
To an whom it may concern Be it known that I, FERDINAND SCHULTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Treynor, in the county of Pottawattamie and State of Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Stoek-Feeding Device, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my inventionis to provide astoclt feeding device of simple, durable and inexpensive construction especially designed for feeding prepared foods, especially those having medicinal elements, and in such a way that a small amount. may be fed at a time and an additional supply furnished for a considerable period of time. p p
More particularly it is my purpose to furnish a device of the kind mentioned made of comparatively light and inexpensive material, so constructed and arranged as to have great strength and rigidity, and in which the parts are comparatively small in number.
A further object is to provide such a feed-. ing device inwhich the sides made of metal are so shaped and formed as to be reinforced at various points, to give said parts greater strength, in which said sides are so shaped as to form a feeding chute.
My invention consists in certain details, in the construction, arrangement and combination of the various parts of the device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter set. forth, pointed out in my claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in wl1ich- Figure 1 shows a side elevation of stock feeding device embodying my inventioni Fin: 2 shows a central vertical sectional view through. the same taken at right angles to the view. shownin Fig. 1. Fig. 3 shows a horizontal. sectional view with partof the chute cut away. "Fig. 4 shows a detail sece.
tional view taken on the line 4-4: of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 shows a detail sectional view of part of the top of my device illustrating arrangement of lock or latch.
As hereinbefore stated it is my purpose to form my device of few parts and my in vention lies in the details of construction whereby said parts are so arranged and formed as to enable me to build a device with a minimum of parts and weight and a maximum of strength.
In the accompanying drawings I have used the reference numeral 10 to indicate the upright end members of my stock feeding H. made of wood.
()n each side near their lower end the memdevice. The. members 10 are preferably At their lower ends mem- Patented cc. 9, 1913.
It will be seen that i the members 1 0--1112 form a trough extending flanges 16, designed to receive the edges ofthe end member 10 and to rest against the outer surface thereof. Flanges 16 aresecured to the end members 10 by means of screw threaded bolts 17 and nuts 18. The portions 15 are provided at each sideedgewith right angle flanges 19. The portionslo are somewhat narrower than portions. 14:, and extend downwardly and inwardly toward each other between the members 10 and form a chute as shown in Fig. 2. The flanges 19 are designed torest against the inner surfaces of the end membars 10 and are secured thereto by means ofscrew threaded bolts 20 and nuts 21. The
loweredges or ends of the members 14- are bent or rolled outward from each other to form cyliud ers 22. Mounted in the cylinders 22 are rods 23 which extend through the end Walls 10 and serve to reinforce and strengthen my stock feeding device. The rods or bolts 23 are provided with heads 2% y at one endand are securely threaded atthe other end to receive nuts 25. Each body portion of 14 at; its upper end is bentor folded inwardly over the top of the device andithen outwardly toward the body portion 14; forming! a flat roll or fold 26, which serves to greatly strengthen and reinforce the device. On the inside of the end members 10 at the top I provide reinforcing strips :27 preferably made of wood.
I provide a lid or cover for my improved stock feeding device which is constructed as follows: I provide a rectangular body portion 28 having squareportions out out of the corners and then having the edges turned down and forming downwardly extending flanges 29, which receive the upper ends of the members 10 and 14. The lower edges of the flanges 29 are bent or rolled outwardly to form cylinders 30 in which are received rein-forcing rods 31. The lid or cover 28 is hinged to one of the ends of the device in the following manner: The upper ends of flanges 16 engaging one of the end members 10 are provideo with vertical slits at the corners of the device. They are then folded outwardly and downwardly forming cylinders 32 in line with each other and the ends or" the strips formed by the upper ends of said flanges 16 are folded over against the body of said flanges 16 and are secured th reto and to the members 10 and 27 by means of screw threaded bolts and nuts 34. Portions of one of the flanges 29 and cylinders 30 are cut away at 35, and the cylinders 32 are received in said notches with red 31 received in said cylinders. By means of the construction ust described the top or lid 28 is hinged to the iiange 16. (in the side of the cover 28 opposite that on which hinges are formed I preferably cut away a small per ion of the flange 29 and cylinder 30 and mount on the rod 31 the cylinder 36 of the latch device 38. Said latch device 28 is provided with a slot- 39 receive staple 40.
One or" the great advantages of my improved stock feeding device lies in the econoimy of its practical construction. 'he wocde parts may be cut in the ordinary way and the metal oarts may be made by dies. The side members are cut and formed all identically the same size and shape and preferably formed a single. operation. The top or cover is formed at one operation wnh the flange 29, and the cylinder 30 with the rod o wire 31 inclosed. therein formed at another operation. The side members are then slipped into position and bolted to the end members 10. The portion of the flanges oi: the side members from which the hinges re to be made extend upwardly. The cover is tl en pla ed on the top of the device with the hinge forming members extending through slots 35. The hinges are then bent over, formed and bolted. The actual construction of the parts is done very rapidly and with comparatively few operations and when the device is completed it is made of light and inexpensive material so formed as to be strongly reinforced at the proper points.
I claim as my invention-- 1. In a device of the class described, a frame comprising upright end members side members each having laterally extending flanges secured to the outer surfaces of sair. end members, said side members having downwardly and inwardly extending portions provided with flanges secured to said end members and a cover having downwardly extending flanges, the downwardly extending flanges of one side being rolled to form cylinder having notches cut out to rece've hinge members and a rod received in said cylinder, portions of the flanges of the main body of one of said side members beextended through said notches and then around said rod to form hinges.
2. In. a derice of the class described, a frame, comprising upright end members,
side members, each having laterally extend ing flanges secured to the outer surfaces of said end members, said side members having downwardly and inwardly extending portions provided with flanges secured to said end portions and a cover h ving clownextending flanges and cylinders rined at the lower edges in said flanges, a d received in said cylinders, portions of c of said cylinders being cut away to rere hinge members, portions of said first described flanges of one of said side mem bers being extended around said rod to form hinges.
