VAPOR-BATE AIPARATUS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALVINA BRUEGGEMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Vapor-Bath Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompan ing drawings, forming part of this speci cation, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bath tub provided with my improved vapor bath attachment. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 22 of Fig; 1. Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the metal clamps.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in vapor bath attachment for bath tubs, the object bein to enable one to quickly and easily adjust t e cover on a bath tub so as to confine the heat in the tub resulting from the presence of hot water and in that way get the benefit of not only the hot water in the tub but the vapor or steam arising therefrom. The water can, of course, be medicated in any desired manner, and after using, the apparatus can be quickly removed from the tub and folded in a compact package to be put away in readiness for future use.
In the drawings, 1 indicates a bath tub of usual or ordinary construction having the outwardly rolling fiangearound its upper edge as is commonly employed.
2 indicates a sheet of material, preferably of rubber cloth, which is of such size as to fold over the rolling edges of the tub, this sheet bein preferably'cut to the shape of the tub. 6n the underside of the sheet and disposed at various points around its marginal edges are elongated pockets 3 for the reception of adjustable clam inghook mem-.
hers 4 shown in Fig. 3. T lese hook members areslotted at their inner ends for the reception of a bolt whose threaded end re eeives a butterfly but 5.
The sheet is split at one end and provided with an opening 6 in the length of the split, which 0 enin is designed to fit snugly around the neo of the person taking a bath. In front of the opening 6 the marginal- Specification of Letters iatcnt.
Application filed March 15, 1913,
Patented Dec. 9, 1913.
Serial No. 754,553.
edges of the split are preferably folded down and provided with fastening members 7 in the form of glove fasteners so that the person in the tub may readily fasten these downwardly extending marginal edges of the split together. The split portion behind the opening 6 is also provided with fastening devices 8, but in this instance the edges of the split preferably overlap each other, although they may extend downwardly as do the marginal edges in front of the openin 6.
n operation the hooked clamping members are first adjusted in the pockets and the bolts clasped through the wall of the pockets and the sheet, which openings are preferably protected by metal hollow eyelets so as to prevent the bolt from tearing the sheet and the wall of the pocket. Preferably the hooked clamps are inserted into the pockets sufficiently far so that the sheet will extend down to or beyond the curved ends thereof, as in this manner the sheet is made to closely hug the outrolling flange of the tub. By providing the hooked clamps with slots in theirinner ends, a sheet may be adjusted to different sizes of tubs and be stretched as tightly over the tub as desired. The slits on each side of the opening 6 permit the person to enter the tub after which the fastening devices 8 may first be secured together and then when the edges of the opening 6 are adjusted around the neck of the bather, the fastening devices 7 may be secured.
The slit in front of the opening 6 is preferably of such length as to enable the person in the tub to reach the faucets either within the tub or outside of the tub, as the case may be, and control the supply of water.
\Vhat I claim is:
1. An apparatus of the character described comprising a sheet having pockets disposed around its marginal edge, slotted clam ing hooks slidingly arranged in each of said pockets, and a clamping bolt passing through the walls of the pockets and the sheet and through the slots in said clamps to adjustably hold the clamps in position.
2. An apparatus of the character described comprising a sheet, clamping members adjustably secured in pockets to the mafginaI edges of said sheet and having In testimony whereof I hereunto atfix my curved outer ends, which curved outer ends signature in the presence of two witnesses, are also locatedin said pockets, and means this 13th day of March, 1913.
7 whereby the marginal edges of the sheet are ALVINA BRUEGGEMAN. held by said curved clamping ends in close Witnesses: engagement with the outwardly rolling edge M. P. SMITH,
