MICHELAN'GELO BONO, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SUSPENDERS.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MIoiInLANenLo Bone, a citizen of Italy, residing at New York city, county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to suspenders of novel construction and more particularly to novel and efiieient means for securing the tabs to the webbing.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1, is a front view of suspenders embodying my invention: Fig. 2, a longitudinal section through one of the front tabs, and Fig. 3, a cross section on line 5, 5, Fig. 2.
The device consists essentially of a continuous strip of webbing 10 of a length sulficient to form the two shoulder straps of a pair of suspenders. At one of its ends, the webbing carries a hook 11, while at its other end it carries an eye 12 adapted to be engaged by the hook when the device is to be worn in the form of a' belt. In order to secure the hook to the webbing, one end of the latter is drawn through a slotted slide 13 and is then fastened by a bent wire clasp 14. Over the protruding end of slide 13 is slipped a slotted frame 15, while the upper corrugated plate-like section 1(5 of hook 11 is introduced between the slide and plate, said upper section being provided with laterally extending shoulders 17 adapted to en gage the slide. In like manner, the upper plate like and corrugated section 18 of eye 12 has shoulders 19 and is detachably cured to the other end of the webbing by means of slide 13, frame 15 and clasp 14.
The duplex front tabs 20 slitted as at 34 and adapted to support the trousers, carry an intermediate tab adapted to support the drawers. This intermediate tab comprises a tubular casing 21, the lower flat apertured end 22 of which is adapted to be passed back of a tape on the drawers and to be thence secured to a stud 23 projecting from the tab. lVithin casing 21 is housed a spiral spring 24 which encompasses a plunger rod 25 having a foot 26 below the spring and extending upwardly through an apert-ured plate 27 fitted into the upper end of the casing. Rod 25 thence passes through a reinforcing ring 28 encircling tab 20 and through the body of said tab, said rod having an upper bent end or beak 29. By the Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 31, 1913.
Patented Dec. 9, 1913. Serial No. 745,321.
construction described, all objectionable springs located above the tabs, a. between the tabs and the webbing are dispensed with, while nevertheless an ellicient yielding relation between the webbing and all of the tabs is provided for. That is to say, under st am, the resulting pull on the webbing will cause an upward movement of plunger 25 within plate 27 and rin 28, thereby compressing spring 24:, and thus providing the desired resilient action. That tab which is to depend from hook 11 is further provided with a plate 30 having a slot 31 adapted to be engaged by hook 11 and an aperture 32 adapted to be engaged by beak 2t). \Vith that tab which is to depend from eye 12, plate 30 is omitted, the beak 29 of its plungcr 25 passing directly through an aperture of eye 12. It will be seen that the tabs may be readily attached to and removed from the hook 11 and eye 12 respectively and that in addition to providing means for sustaining the trousers, the tabs present strong resilient and readily operable means for sustaining the drawers.
At its center, there is fitted upon the webbing 10, a removable slide 42 having an elongated slot for the reception of the webbing. This slide is removably engaged by the upper bent ends 413 of a bail l-il: from which the rear tabs 4:") are suspended. These rear tabs may be provided with a tubular casing 16 inclosing a spring plunger 47 constructed similar to plunger 25 and having an upper bent end 48 which is hooked over bail 44. Slide 42 may be removed by first removing the clasp 14k and slide 13 together with its hook or eye from one end of webbing 10, and then slippin slide 4-2 oil said end.
I claim:
Suspenders comprising a webbing, a plunger depending therefrom, a duplex trouser-engaging tab having a centrally apertured shank that accommodates the plunger, a tubular drawers-engaging tab inclosing the plunger below the shank of the first named tab, and a spring interposed between the lower end of the plunger and the upper end of the tubular tab.
