MARCEL VANDAL, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
CONTROL OF BRUSHES.
Original application filed June 7, 1912, Serial No. 702,331.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Serial No. 776,954.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Maroon VANDAL, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing at 8 Rue St. Augustin, Paris, in the Republic of France, engineer, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Control of Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This application is a division of my application for patent for coloringmachine for moving picture films, filed June 7, 1912, Serial No. 702,331.
This invention relates to improvements in the control of brushes whereby to communicate to two sets of brushes, having each one or more brushes, both a rcciprocatory and a circular motion in the brushing plane. The combination of these motions is for the purpose of distributing any material, such as color for instance, equally on any surface plane or substantially so.
According to this invention, the brushes are secured to two rods which are coupled respectively with two crank arms revolving in opposite directions, and which are held parallelly at the same distance from one another.
One embodiment of this invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a side elevation and Fig. 2 a bottom plan view of the brushing device according to this invention.
Each brush 1 or 1' is secured to a metal plate 2 provided with a central boss 3 which in turn is secured to a rod 4 parallel to the brush; on one end of each rod 41 is secured a block 5, which is provided with a hole for the passage of the other rod; both the brushes are thus guided parallelly to each other and are held always at the same distance from one another. Each of the blocks is pivoted to a wrist pin 6 and the pins 6 are carried by two gear wheels 7 mounted on a plate 8; both the gear wheels are connected together by two intermediate pinions 9 so that they can only revolve in inverse directions and always at the same speeds. In the embodiment shown, the wrist-pins 6 are placed synnnetrically with respect to the perpendicular m-;u drawn from the line of the centers of the wheels at the middle of such line. All the points ot the brushes 1 and 1 and of all the members 2, 3, t, 5, which are connected therewith, are thus caused to describe circles equal to the circles symmetrically described by the pins (5 and the brushes are always kept in the same direction. l lowever, the invention is not limited to such peculiar motion; for instance, the position of one of the pins 6 on the respective wheel 7 may be altered to make the brushes swing while being circularly revolved so that the different points of the brushes will describe irregular curves, of suitable shapes. One of the wheels 7 is operated by means of a pulley 1O driven by a round belt 11.
Claims:
1. The combination of two crank plates the axes of which are parallel, two rods coupled respectively to the two crank plates, guiding means adapted to hold the rods parallel and always at the same distance from each other, means for revolving or turning the two crank plates the one in a direction inverse to the other, and brushes secured respectively to the said rods.
2. The combination of two crank plates the axes of which are parallel, two parallel rods, two blocks secured respectively to the said rods and ccccntrically journaled to the crank plate, each block having a hole for the passage ot. the other rod, means for revolving the two crank plates the one in a direction inverse to the other and brushes secured respectively to the said rods.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MARCEL VANDAL.
