CORN-RACK.
To all whom ti may concern zen of the United States, residing at Orting, in the county of Pierce and State of WVashington, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Corn-Racks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to racks for seedcorn, and has as its object to provide a rack which will occupy but little space and yet will be adapted to support a maximum number of ears.
The invention further aims to provide a rack for seed-corn so constructed that it will be adapted'to support the ears of seedcorn without injuring the kernels.
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the rack embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view on an enlarged scale on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing one of the ear supporting members. Fig. 4: is a similar View illustrating a similar modification of the member shown in Fig. 3.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawing, by the same reference characters.
In the drawing the rack is illustrated as comprising a frame consisting of end-stand ards 1, secured at their lower ends to 811111 able bases 2. An intermediate standard 3 is provided and is supported at its lower end by a base 1 and a cross-piece 5 is secured to the upper ends of the standards 1 and 3 and serves to connect the standards in spaced relation. To the inner face of each standard 1 is secured a bar 6 into which, at intervals, are driven nails or other suitable securing devices 7. Wires 8 are secured at their ends to nails 7 and are stretched taut between the standards 1 and these wires are engaged by staples 9 upon the standard 3 as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing. The wires 8 extend parallel to each other, and horizontally, and
are braced in proper spaced relation by means of verticallyextending tie wires 10, which are secured at their upper. ends to the cross-piece 5 and are secured to the wires 8 at their points of intersection therewith by solder or other means.

I v The invention contemplates the provision Be it known that I, FRANK P. ns'r, c1t1- or of the form shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing. The member shown in Fig. 3 is formed from a suitable length of wire which is bent to substantially annular form and is indi cated by the numeral 11. The end-portions of this-wire are bent as indicated at 12 and Patented Nov. '18,, I913.
Application filed May 4, 1912. Serial No. 695,196.
the said portions are bent to hook form, as
It will be readily understood by referring to Fig. 2 of the drawing that the ears of corn may be hung upon both sides of the rack. In other words, two ears may be supported from that portion of each wire 8 which extends between two adjacent wires 10.
The ear supporting member shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing is also formed from. a length of wire which is bent to annular form and is indicated by the numeral 14 and this wire has one end bent to form a hook 15 and has its other end bent or twisted around the shank of the hook as at 16. This memher is employed in substantially the same way as the member shown in Fig. 3, the ear of corn being supported in the loop 14 and the hook 15 being engaged with one or another of the wires 8. 7
From the foregoing description of the invention it will be seen that there is provided a corn rack which is simple in construction,
consisting of substantially circular ear-embracing portions and being terminally looped to embrace thestrands, the ear-supporting ears Which are supported come in contact members of each pair being disposed With and maintain themselves in Vertical position. 10 their looped terminals in contact, the ear- In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature supporting portion of one of the members in presence of two Witnesses.
extending on one side of the horizontal FRANK P. NEST. [1,. s.] strand and the ear-supporting portion of the other member extending on the other side of the horizontal strand whereby the Witnesses:
