Description

Patented Nov. 11, 1913.
O. WIGGERS. BURGLAR ALARM. APPLIGATION FILED MAR.8,1913.
OTTO WIGGERS, OF I-IOOPER, UTAH.
BUBGLAR-ALARM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 11, 1913.
Application filed March 8, 1918. Serial No. 752,982.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, 0'1'1'0 "WIooEns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hooper, in the county of Weber and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burglar-Alarms, of which the following is' a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a circuit closing device which is used in combination with a safe and has for,its special object the production of a device which will automatically close the circuit for ringing abell, or for giving other notice when unauthorized access is had to the interior of the safe.
Another object of this invention is the production of a circuit closing device which will *automatically close the circuit when the boxes contained within the safe are moved so as to allow the contact members to come into engagement.
\Vith these and other objects in view, it will be seen that this-device consists of certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a rear elevat on of the safe showing the device attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device showing the lower portion of the safe in vertical section. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the circuit closing member. Fig. 4 is a top tplan view of the device-showing a portion 0 the safe in section: Fig. '5 is a side elevation of a contact post and attaching means attachedto a portion of the-safe.
Referrin to'the accompanying drawing by numera s 1 indicates the safe which is provided with a transversely extending opening 2 formedin its rear portion. This safe 1 may, of course, be of any construction such as the kind used in banks or upon a railroad car. The interior of this safe is provided with the usual boxes 3 in which the money or other valuables are placed.
The rear ortion of the safe 1 supports the insulate blocks-4 which carry the contact plates 5 which are supported thereon in any suitable manner. These contact plates 5 carry the contact posts 6 to which the wires plunger member 12 which is 7 are attached by means of the screw 8. The circuit closing niembercom'pr'ises an elongated spring member 9 which is attached to the body of the safe by means of the screws 10 passing through the apertures 11. The upper portion 0 Iormed of insulated material such as rubber and through which the transverse contact bar 13 passes.
This plunger member 12 is slidably mounted within the opening 2 and normally bears upon one'of the boxes 3. When this device is in position the bar 13 will be positioned so as to bear upon the contact plate 5 when the plunger 13 extends into the safe whereb the circuit will be closed for ringing the bel In operation the boxes"3 are positioned within the safe whereby the plunger will be forced outwardly for disengaging the bar 13 from enga ement with the plates 5. The current is t ion turned on. If unauthorized access is had into the interior of the safe, the boxes will, of course, be withdrawn whereby the. spring 9 will'force the plunger 12 into the safe and will cause the bar 13 tocome into engagement with the plates 5 for closing the circuit for ringing a bell Or-for giving other notice of the access to the safe.
It is, of course, obvious that this device may be used in a safe such as used in banks for turning in an alarm at police headquarters or for use in asafe that is used in express cars for'turning in an alarm into some other car upon the train. Any suitable means, such as stora e batteries, may be used for operatin this evice as the same will form. a minimum current to operate the same.
-Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
Ina device of the kind described in com bination with a safe provided with a transverse opening and provided with an article upon its inner portion, a plurality of insulated members supported adjacent said opening, contact plates mounted upon said insulated members and rovided with contact posts, a spring carried by said safe, a laterally extending plunger carried by said spring and slidably mounted within said opening, a transversely extending contact this sprin carries the bar carried by said plunger, said spring nor- In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my lnally exertmg inwardpressure upon szucl signature in presence of two witnesses. plunger, sald contact bar adapted to engage V V I said Contact plates for closing the circuit for Orro VIGGERS' giving an alarm when the article CODlZitlllQfl Witnesses: in the safe is removed from the inner end of R. D. KUIJPER, J12, said plunger. TEUIQTJE D. KUIJPER.
