To all lwhom. it'may concern Y VBe it known that I, JUDsoN KNIGHT, of Newark, in the county of Essex andfState f New J ersey, have invented a new and improved Whiftletree Hook; and

My invention consists `in arranging and inclosing within a whiiletree case or ferrule, avlever and spring, all of which will behereinafter.specifically designated and set'forthin thefollowiug description.

` This plate D is designed to iuclose the'pa-rts that operate the hook, so that they may be kept free from dirt, as also the action'ofxthe cold. f

, a is the clasp, wh'ichismade round without the case, and square within. To the square ypart of the clasp'is secured a lever, b, to open, the end oi which 'has fa slight projection tot within the end of the spiral spring C, which springpresses against thecase in a transverse direction.

. It isv onlynecessary to depress the .sp1-ing' very slightly in order to relieve the clasp'and remove thel cock-eye. j.

I am aware that springs have been used to operate clasps uponjwhiiiletree hooks,'but they have not been made practical, without incurring' too great au expense to make them available.

My invention has been reduced to practice and found to work well, and to giveentire satisfaction.
