IMPROVEMENT IN CUTAlN-FIXTU RES.
i The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part ofthe same.
To all whom it may concern.-
referencebeing had to the accompanying drawingand tothe letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification; 4 This invention relates to a new and improved shade or curtain-fixture, and is an improvementon one for which Letters Patent were granted to me, bearingv date' of July 20, 1869.
The preseutim-'ention consists in substituting a- `wedge for a screw used iu `my previously patented devicch whereby the roller over which the lowerpart of the cord passes, may be more quickly adjusted than l l hitherto, for regulating -the tension of` the cord.
f In the accompanying drawing-` Figurel is a side view of` my invention. Figure. 2, a front view ofthe `shell or case of the saine, the. movable parts being detached.' Figure 3,'-aside view of the movable parts, the shell or case being insection, l Figure 4, a horizontal section of the device complete, the wedge alone excepted, Vthat not being shown.
' Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts vin the several figures.
`A\is.th e shell orcase of the device, which is construeted of `sheet metal, bent or swaged iurproper fomnthe inner part, a, being `oval shape in its trans verse section, and having 4two,longitudinal flanges, b B, with a space or opelning,c, between, as shown in fig. 2.
The ends ofthe shell orl case haveholes,lZ, through which screws pass t'o secure it to the side of the windowv casing.
The flanges l) ,bare parallel with eachother, so that the space or 'openingo is of uniform. widthfrom end t part being the widest 'or deepest, and gradually de-f.
i .creasing in widthor depth to ,thei`r lower ends.
Within the shell or case A there is aslide, B, which g is allowed towork or move freely up'aud down. Thisl `slide has a rod,re, attached to it, projecting out at' right angles, and extending through the space-or opening c, between the flanges b b ofthe shell or ease, said rod having a rigid button, f, on its outer end, and a roller, g, fitted loosely upon it between the button and a'cap, D, which is tted over the flanges, and which will be'hereinafter described. The lower part'of the shade or roller-cord passes over this roller.
0 is a sliding or adjustable wedge, which is fitted within the shell or case A,between' the slideB and the inner sideof the outer part of the case or shell A,sa`.id wedge having a slot, It, longitudinally in it, for the rod e to. pass through, the slot being suiiciently long to admit of a requisite degree of adjustment of the wedge. I
D is a cap, which is fitted over the outer edges of the flanges b b, and through which the rod e passes. This cap is allowed to slide freely up and down, and
'the roller g may be secured in a higher or lower posi-A tion by pressing down the wedge C, so as to canse the cap D to press or bind against the outer inclined surfaces o f the anges b b, andthe slide B,'to press against the inner 'surface of the shell or case A, the inclined surfaces of the flanges b b preventing auy' casual upward movement of `the rod @and roller g.
Thus it will be seen that, .by this simple 'arrange-4 ment, the tension of the shade-cord maybe regulated as desired, with the greatest facility, the adjustment-v iVVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by -Letters Patent, isl, A
.The combination of the ad'ustable wedge C, shell or case A, provided with the parallel anges b l), having a space or opening, c, between, and provided with inclined outer edges, the slide B and the cap D, all
constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set-forth. i y
rlhe above specicatiou of my invention signed by me this llth day of March, 1870.
