MATRIX-SETTING- ;AND TYPE-LINE-GASTING MACHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Pat nte Novl a, 1913.
Application filed March 11, 1911. Serial No. 613,930.
Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia and Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Matrix-Setting and Type-Line-Casting Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invent-ion relates to a matrix setting and line casting machine of the Mergcnthaler type and consists mainly in a new and improved arrangement of the guiding ledges in the transport channels of the matrix line in which the line is transferred from the assembling elevator to the casting carriage and from the casting carriage to the so called lifting bar, transporting the line to the distrihuter.
In the drawing herewith accompanying and made a part of this application a preferred form of construction of my invention is shown in connection with the ordinary parts of the Mergenthaler lintoype machme. I have confined the accompanying drawing to the parts altered or improved and adjacent parts as all other parts of the machine may be of ordinary known construction.
Figure 1 shows the guide way of the matrix line from the assembling elevator to the cast-ing carriage and from the casting carriage to the lifting bar in elevation, Fig. 2 is a plan of Fig. 1.
The idea of my invention is to extend or to enlarge as much as possible the known inclined guiding device a used to bring the bottom of the matrices assembled in diflerent levels in one level when transferred from the casting carriage 0 t0 the lifting bar It. The extension or enlargmcnt of the said guiding device materially facilitates the transfer of the matrices and subjects them to less wear.
According to my invention, illustrated in the drawing the cam faced guide device a N for the matrix line is enlarged or extended to the left hand side, so that it projects over the left hand side edge of the transport channels 7). The casting carriage a is provided on this place with a corresponding recess f, in which the guiding device a may enter as shown in Fig. 2. It is possible to arrange the said recess f without interfering with the function of the other parts of the machine because the operative part of the casting carriage commences only at the point 9 so that the space beyond it may be utilized bythe said guiding device.
For the purpose to avoid a gap between the'castingcarriage 0 and the so called intermediate channel d, through which the matrix line is transferred from the assembling elevator not shown in the drawing, to the casting carriage 0, also the guiding ledges e of the intermediate channel 62 are enlarged as shown in the drawing so that they join closely with the known guiding ledges i in the casting carriage.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:
1. In a matrix setting and line casting machine in combination a casting carriage, and a transport channel, provided with'an inclined guiding device bringing matrices assembled in different levels with their bottom in one level, said guiding device being extended so as to project over the left hand cast-ing carriage being recessed so as to correspond with the extended guiding device.
2. In a matrix-setting and line casting machine in combination a casting carriage, an intermediate channel guiding the assembled matrix line to the casting carriage and being provided with fixed guide-ledges, said guide-ledges being elongated as to project over the left hand side edge of the intermediate channel and said casting carriage being recessed so as to correspond with the elongated guide-ledges, in such manner that when the carriage registers with the channel, an unbroken track is provided for the matrices in their passage from one to the other.
8. In a matrix setting and line casting machine in combination a casting carriage, a transport channel being provided with an extended and inclined guiding device bringing the matrices assembled in different levels with their bottom in one level and an intermediate channel guiding the assembled matrix line to the casting carriage and being provided with guide ledges, said guiding device being extended and said guide ledges being elongated so as to project over the left hand side edge of the transport and intermediate channel and said casting carriage being recessed as to 110 side edge of the transport channel and said correspond with the extended guiding device and elongated guide ledges, substantially as described.
a. In a typographical machine, the combination of the first elevator to transport the matrices, with an adjacent organ, the said parts being so arranged as to permit the transfer of the matrices from one to the other, and the said organ being provided with fixed guiding means for the matrices, which means are extended so as to project into the elevator, in such manner that when the elevator registers with the organ, an unbroken track is provided for the matrices in their passage from one to the other.
In testimony whereof I have ailixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
