Description

v T. MOOYDLARZ.
ENVELOP MOISTENING DEVICE.
APPLIGATION FILED APR.15, 1913.

WITNESSES INVENTOR f TMoqydZrm ATTORNEY TOMAS MOCYIDLARZ, 0F STRA'IHCONA, ALBERTA, CANADA.
ENVELOP-MOISTENING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 15, 1913.
Patented Oct. 28, 1913. Serial No. 761,334.
To all whom 2'15 concern:
Be it known that I, ToMAs MOOYDLARZ, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Strathcona, Alberta, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelop-Mo-istening Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to an envelop moistening device and the primary obj ectof my invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and durable device that can be advantageously used in large mercantile houses for expeditiously moistening a large number of envelops, thereby obviating the necessity of using the tongue or a sponge for such purposes.
A further object of this invention is to provide a moistening device in the form of a spherical receptacle that has a novel moistening head and a yieldable base whereby the receptacle can be supported upon a desk without any danger of the same upsetting or tilting.
I attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a moistening device in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a top plan of the same, and Fig. 3 is a bottom plan of the device.
A device in accordance with this invention comprises a hollow spherical receptacle 1 that has the bottom thereof provided with a plurality of flat resilient legs or springs 2 that are connected by screws 3 or other fastening means to a circular base 4. The top of the base 4 is concave, as at 5 to provide clearance for the bottom of the receptacle. The top of the receptacle has an opening 6 in communication with a neck 7 that is exteriorly screw threaded, as at 8. The neck 7 has an annular supporting flange 9 and resting upon said supporting flange is a moistening head, comprising a piece of absorbent material 10 inclosed by a casing 11.
Felt, a piece of sponge or other absorbent can be used and incased by a piece of fabric or other pervious material. The moistening head is retained upon the shoulder 9 by a cap 12 screwed upon the neck 7 and an opening 13 in said cap allows a portion or reduced end ofthe moistening head to protrude from the cap whereby said head can be used for the purposes for which it is intended.
The breast or top of the receptacle 1 has a filling opening 14 normally closed by a screw plug 15, said opening permitting of mucilage, liquid paste or water 16 being placed within the receptacle.
After the moistening head has been used for moistening or applying mucilage to the flap of an envelop the device can be inverted and the base 4: used for sealing purposes.
Vhat I claim is 1. An envelop moistening device comprising a hollow spherical receptacle having an opening in the top thereof, an annular neck integral with the periphery of the receptacle at the top thereof and provided with an inwardly extending annular flange flush with the wall of said opening to provide a support, a casing supported by said flange and having an inset outer portion projecting above said neck, an absorbent body mounted in said casing and supported by said flange, a flanged cap secured to the neck and overlapping the casing for maintaining it in position, and a filling opening provided for said receptacle.
2. An envelop moistening device comprising a hollow spherical receptacle having an opening in the top thereof, an annular neck integral with the periphery of the receptacle at the top thereof and provided with an inwardly extending annular flange flush with the wall of said opening to provide a support, a casing supported by said flange and having an inset outer portion projecting above said neck, an absorbent bod mounted in said casing and supported by said flange, a flanged cap secured to the neck and overlapping the casing for maintaining it in position, a filling opening provided for said receptacle, and means for resiliently can be vertically moved to agitate the Water supporting said receptacle. to supply the latter to said element. 10 3.
