TROLLEY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Get. 28, 1913'.
AppIication filed April 8, 1913. Serial No. 759,672.
To all whom it may concern Be 1t known that T, SEoIsMUNDo GARCIA VALLEs, a citizen of the Republic of Cuba.
and a resident of Habana, in the Province of Habana, Cuba, have invented a new and Improved Trolley, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
- This invention is an improvement in trolleys, and has reference more particularly to a trolley having loosely mounted brushes.
The object of this invention is to provide an inexpensive, simple and reliable trolley in which the working parts can be quickly interchanged without the displacement of the trolley.
The invention consists of the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and fully set forth in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which like characters indicate corresponding parts in all the views and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is an elevated central section of same; Fig. 3 is a section on line 33, Fig. 1; and Fig. 4: is a perspective view of the brush. 7
In the appended drawings, 5 represents the bifurcated end of the trolley. Between the sides 6 forming the bifurcation a trolley wheel 7 is positioned. The trolley wheel 7 is provided with a bushing 8 into which fits an axle 9, the ends of the same bearing in the sides 6 of the bifurcated end of the pole. Mounted on the axle and adjacent the wheel are washers 10, and positioned between the washers and the inner faces of the sides 6 on the axle 9 are brushes 11. The brushes 11 extend downwardly alongside the inner faces of the sides 6; and the lower contacting end 12 of same is bent to follow the sides of the pyramidal recess 13 formed at the base of the bifurcation. The pyramidal recess 13 is formed by the sides forming the bifurcation and also by two transverse wall portions 14 extending transversely of the sides 6 forming the bifurcation and integral with same and lying slightly belon the edge of the wheel 7. 14 adjacent the sides 6 are pins 15 contacting" with the ends 12 of the brushes 11 and normally forcing these ends against the sides of the pyramidal recess 13 formed by the side walls 6. The space between the pins '15 and the adjacent side is such that an effort is required to place the end 12 of the brush into said space.
To prevent the displacement of the axle 9 from the sides 6, the axle and the sides are provided with registering apertures into which cotter pins 16 are fitted. WVith my device, when the brushes 11 are worn out,
as the case is in general, same can be quickly replaced by first disengaging the cotter pins,
extracting the axle, removing the wheel with the washers, and then simply pulling out the brushes, forcing new brushes into place and replacing the removed parts. From this it can be seen that there is no necessity for removal of'the trolley tov the shops for the interchanging or riveting of parts as is done at present.
Having thus described my invention, what Engaging the two walls.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: y
In a trolley, a pole having a pyramidal recess in its end, and arms extending beyond said end; a wheel between said arms; an axle supporting said Wheel; brushes at eachv side of said wheel on said axle adjacent the arms and each having a portion extending into said pyramidal recess; and
pins in said recess forcing said brush portions in said recess against the sides forming the bifurcation.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
, SEGISMUNDO GARCIA VALLES.
