UTEE @TATFES AIIN @FFlWhl JOHN S. CAMERON, OF MQKEESPGR'I, PENNSYLVANIA.
POCKET IM?LEMENT.
Application filed August 1, 1912.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN S. CAMERON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at McKeesport, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket Implements, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a pocket implement, and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a shoe or glove buttoner which can be folded when not in use and conveniently carried in the pocket.
A further object of this invention is to provide an implement of the above type that is inexpensive to manufacture, not liable to injury for ordinary use, and highly efiicient for various purposes.
I obtain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the implement. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a plan of the implement.
An implement in accordance with this invention comprises two parallel side plates, 1 and 2 that have the outer ends thereof connected by a transverse rivet or pin 3, said side plates being spaced apart by the inner end 4; of a knife blade 5, the inner end of said blade being pivotally mounted upon the rivet or pin 3, whereby it can be swung to a closed position, between the side plates 1 and 2.
The inner ends of the side plates 1 and 2 are enlarged, as at 5 and the confronting sides of said plates are provided with nail clippers. The inner side of the plate 2, adjacent to the clipper 6 thereof, is cut away, as at 7 in order to provide clearance for a clipped piece of finger nail.
lhe outer side of the plate 2, at the inner end thereof, is provided with apertured lug 3 and pivotally mounted between said Specification of Letters Patent.
Fatented Get. 1 1, 1913.
Serial No. 712,686.
lug is a nut picker or nail cleaner 9 that can be swung at right angles to the side plate 2, asbest shown in Fig. 1. The nut picker or finger cleaner 9 when in a closed position engages the outer side of the plate 2, as best shown in Fig. 3.
Pivotally mounted upon the end of the rivet or pin 3, at the outer side of the plate 1, is a shoe or glove buttoner 10 and this shoe or glove buttoner can be swung against the side of the plate 1. The hooked end 11 of the buttoner is intended to rest in a seat 12, carried by the inner end of the plate 1. The buttoner 10 is swung over a lug or teat 16, carried by the inner end of the plate 1, said lug retaining the buttoner upon the seat 12, whereby it cannot become accidentally displaced.
The side plates 1 and 2 are made of a malleable or resilient material whereby the inner ends 5 thereof can be easily sprung to gether in order that the clipper 6 can clip a nail.
It is thought that the utility implement will be apparent without further description, and while in the drawing there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood the constructional. elements are susceptible to such varition as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is- A pocket implement including a handle, a pivot projecting from one side thereof at one end, a curved seat projecting from said side at the other end thereof, a lug project ing from said side above said seat, and a button hook having one end mounted upon said pivot and its hook end adapted to be positioned in said seat and with the lug engaging the bill of the hook for maintaining said hook end in said seat.
In testimony whereof I aftix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN S. CAMERON.
