To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, PETER Roor, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eureka, in the county of Humboldt and State of California, have invented a new and useful team-Generator for Oil-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in steam generators, the same being especially designed to be used in connection with oil burners, and more particularly to that class of burners wherein a heavy crude oil is used, the primary object of the invention being the provision of a plurality of superposed varying sized coils, the lowermost coil of which is in communication with a water supply, while the upper coil of which has leading thereaway from to the burner, a conduit fOr conveying the steam to the burner, the said burner being so positioned as to project below the lowermost coil and in the space between all of the coils, so as to properly gene-rate steam for vaporizing the heavy oil.
The present invention relates particularly to the steam generator as shown in applicants Patent No. 1,022,263, dated April 2, 1912 and of which the present application is a division.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawingsFigure 1 is a perspective view of a complete steam generator with the burner set forth in the above mentioned patent in operable relation thereto, dotted lines illustrating the position of a fire box and boiler to which the present invention is attached. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the generator coil. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view thereof. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view showing the positioning of the sediment re ceiving and supporting legs for the coils.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the water supply, provided with the hand valve 2 and a supply pipe leading to the forward end of the coil, as at 3, this coil having its members 4 and 5 provided with T-couplings to which are connected the vertically disposed supporting legs 6 and 6, respectively. These legs are, in reality, pipes which are placed in communication with the lowermost coil of the generator, so that the sediment of the coils will be precipitated into these vertical pipes, to be removed therefrom by the removal of detachable caps 6 connected to the lower ends of said vertical pipes and forming the feet therefor. The coils 7, 8, 9 and 10 are similarly shaped to the coil 3, but are of varying sizes, the lowermost coil being the largest, while the uppermost is the smallest. By this arrangement the coils taper or incline rearwardly, from the lowermost to the uppermost coil, and thus provide an opening at the bottom, end and top for the proper introduction of the flame to the coils to generate the steam for vaporizing the heavy oil.
Leading from one terminal of the upper coil 1, is a downwardly and outwardly inclined conduit 11, which is provided with an elbow connection with the pipe 12. The pipe 12 leads to a steam trap and filtering device 18, which has led therefrom the pipe 14. The elbows 15 and the coupling 16 connect the pipe 14: to the burner casing 17 so that steam is properly supplied to said burner casing to heat and liquefy the heavy crude oil contained within said burner, and as more particularly set forth in the aforementioned patent. As shown, this burner casing is disposed at the front of the steam generator coil and is inclined so that the steam and oil emitting end is projected slightly below the forward portion of the lowermost member of the coil, the flames furnished by the steam and oil being projected into the space between the terminals of the respective members of the coil, so that the water within the coil is properly heated from the lowermost coil upwardly and at its point of introduction to the member. As clearly shown in Fig. 1, the coil is disposed within the fire box of a boiler, with the main portion of the burner casing 17 introduced through the clean-out door, and by this arrangement the water for assisting in the vaporization of the heavy oil is properly heated to produce the desired super-heated steam within the coil to be fed through the filtering device 13 and finally into the casing 17 to heat the same.
What is claimed is:
1. A. steam generator including a plurality of U-shaped tubular members, said members being of different lengths and communicating to form a single coil, avalved water supply pipe leading to the lowest member a pipe connected to the upper member for directing the steam generated within the coil away from the coil and a plurality of combined sediment collecting and supporting legsin communication with the lowermost member of the coil and forming a support for the coil. 7
2-. A steam generator for burners of heavy crude oil, including a coil com-posed of a plurality of superposed U-shaped members of varying sizes, the lowermost being the largest, a water supply pipe connected to one terminal or" the lowest member, a steam conducting pipe leading from a terminal of the uppermost member and at the opposite side of the coil to the water supply pipe, and a plurality of combined sediment collecting and supporting legs in communication with the lowermost member of the coil and forming a support for the generator.
3. A steam generator .coil for vaporizing heavy crude oil, comprising a plurality of varying sized U-shaped members connected together, four vertical pipes connected to the lowermost member and in communication with the same to receive the sediment from the coil, and a removable cap for the lower end of each vertical pipe.
4. A steam generator coil, having a plurality of superposed U-shaped members, and tour vertical pipes,-each pipe having the upper end connected to and in communication with the lowest member of the coil to provide a sediment receptacle for the gener ator.
5. A steam generator for .oil burners and for insertion within the'fire box of a steam boiler or the like including'a coil composed of plurality of members connected at one end to a water supply and having a steam conduit at the other end, and a plurality of sediment collectors connected to and in communication with the coil and. forming the supporting legs for the generator.
