HERMAN FRITZ, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP STEAM GENERATORS AND BOILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,930, dat
ed May @0, 1876; application filed March 11, 1876.
is employed for generatingheat for the purpose of heating water for various uses; and consists of a cylinder surrounded by a vessel for holding water, said cylinder being placed over a lamp-burner, so as to serve as a chimney thereto, and to be" heated by the flame thereof, and thus heat the contents of the vessel surrounding the cylinder. The vessel is covered with a cap having a hole in the center, through which the cylinder protrudes, and to this cap is secured, by pipes projecting through the same into the heating-vessel, a
steam-dome having a conical bottom.
To enable others to fully understand my invention, I proceed to describe the same in detail with the aid of the accompanying drawin g, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my appara- "tus; Figs. 2 and 3, side and sectional views,
respectively, of the apparatus, with a cap attached instead of a steam-dome.
A, Fig. 3, is a cone-shaped cylinder, surrounded by a vessel, B, designed to contain water. The said cylinder A and vessel B are to be supported upon suitable legs a a, between which is placed a lamp, 0, bringing the flame underneath the cylinder A, which forms the chimney for the lamp. The vessel B is. pro vided with a loose cover .or cap, D, havinga hole in the center, leaving the top of the cylinder A open.
For the purpose of generating steam I propose to make the vessel B on a larger scale, as may be required, and have two or more cylinders through it for employing more lamps, and'surmount the same with a steam-dome, F, (seen in Fig. 1,) connecting it with the vessel by pipes G G. Said dome I make with an inverted cone for its bottom, and place the apex directly over the center of the chimney A. In this manner it receives the heat from the chimney without retarding the draft. To the top of the dome is placed a neck and cover for filling, and from the top of the dome also pipes may be attached for conveying away the steam. This is designed for a cheap portable apparatus for generating steam for heating or warming rooms, the apparatus being connected with suitable heat-radiators.
I have shown in Figs. 2 and 3 a cup, E, for heating water, &c., attached to the cover D, merely to' illustrate the principle of operation, and not intended to be claimed as entirely original with me. Fig. 3 shows, in section, the details of construction of the cylinder and water-vessel.
Having described my invention, I claim- The cylinder A, surrounding vessel B, having legs a a, and heating device O, in combination with the steam-dome F, having a conical bottom, pipes G G, and movable cover D, all constructed substantially as shown.
