To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR B. MCCALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Sangamon and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Trousers- Shields, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a trousers shield or guard to be applied to the leg of a bicycle or motorcycle rider about the lower portion of the trousers leg.

The main object of my invention is to provide a substitute for the ordinary trousers clip in common use which presents an unsightly appearance and which fails to prevent the trousers from being soiled by mud, grease, etc, from the wheels and moving parts of the motorcycle or bicycle.

A further object of my invention is to provide a shield which will effectively prevent the trousers from being caught and damaged by the moving parts of the motorcycle or bicycle, and which may be easily and quickly applied and removed.

The trousers shield of my invention is intended to be worn about the bottom of the trousers leg and is held in place by means of a spring band, which when in position about the trousers, presents a neat appearance and conforms to the general curvature of the leg. When not in use the shield may be comfortably worn in position beneath the trousers leg.

The preferred embodiment of my invention is hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

In the drawings :Figure 1 is a view of the trousers shield in position on the leg. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the outside of the shield flattened out. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the standard member. Fig. 4: is a perspective view of the spring band member. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the frame, showing the cover dotted in.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a spring band member having circular hcles 2 at the ends and a circular hole 3 and 4 on either side equidistant from the ends. To spring band member 1 at either 3 or 4 is riveted a standard member 5, the rivet passing through said standard member at circular hole 6. At the ends of said standard member are circular holes 7. Cover 8 is attached about frame members 1 and 5 by rivets or self-piercing buttons through holes length of the leg,

It being necessary to adapt the shield for use on both the right and left leg of the wearer, when assembling the parts for use on the right leg standard 5 is riveted to spring band member 1 at circular hole 4, and for the left at circular hole 3. Cover 8 is then turned over, or cut to suit the arrangement of the frame.

It will be seen from the foregoing description that my invention provides a trousers shield of neat appearance as a substitute for the ordinary trousers clip, and which will effectively prevent the trousers from being injured or soiled by the moving parts of a motorcycle or bicycle.

Changes within the spirit and scope of the appended claims may be made, as it is obvious that the details of construction may be varied in many ways. For instance the upper portion of the standard 5 may be carried upward nearly to the knee of the wearer for added protection to a motorcycle or horseback rider, or for the use of mountain climbers.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A. trousers shield comprising in combination, a resilient holding strip adapted to embrace the leg of the wearer substantially horizontally with respect to the length thereof, a substantially vertical stiffening strip adapted to be disposed along the inside of the leg of the wearer, means pivotally connecting said strips at points at one side of the longitudinal centers of the strips, and a shield cover in the form of a quadrangle having two opposite sides of equal length and one side longer and another side shorter than either of the two equal sides, the apices of the longer and equal sides being secured to those ends of the strips which are farthest apart from each other, and the apices of the shorter and equal sides being secured to those ends of the strips which are nearest each other to hold the vertical strip in place and dispose the greater area of the cover inwardly and forwardly about the leg and the lesser area outwardly about the leg, substantially as described. A trousers shield comprising in combination, a resilient holding strip adapted to embrace the leg of the wearer substantially horizontally with respect to the a substantially vertical stiflening strip adapted to be disposed along the inside portion of the leg of the wearer, means 'pivotally connecting said strips at points at one side of the longitudinal centers of said strips, and a four pointed shield cover so proportioned as to dispose its points at the ends of said strips, said points being secured to the ends of said strips to hold the same in predetermined relation ARTHUR B.
