To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, RICHARDSON TV. Dron- ENSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sioux Falls, in the county of Minne-v haha and State of South Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements 1n Appliances to Facilitate the Washing and Drying of Dishes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to combination furniture, and pertains more particularly to a cabinet which is adapted to be used both as a table and for dish washing and draining purposes.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation with the movable section in raised position; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view showing the movable section in section; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view showing the movable section in section, and the tanks and drains in top plan; Fig. 4: is a detail perspective view of the drain board of the table; Fig. 5 is a front elevation of a modification, and Fig. 6 is a vertical sectional view thereof.

Referring to the drawings the numeral 1 designates the body portion of the table supported upon the legs 2, the top portion being divided by a central longitudinal drain board 3. To the front of the drain board 3 and beneath same are suitably supported the tanks i and 5 one of which is adapted to be used as a washing tank, and the other as a rinsing tank. Each of these tanks is provided with a suitable drain or outlet pipe 6.

The inner side walls of the body portion 1 are provided on opposite sides with guide members 7 which engage in slots in the sides 8 of the vertically movable draining rack 8 and by means of which the same is guided in its movement from lowered to raised position and vice versa. The rack 8 has a top which comprises two sections 9 and 10 hinged as at 11, the section 10 of the top being adapted to fold over the section 9 when the vertically movable section is in its lowered position shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 2.

Connected to the sides 8 of the rack 8 are a plurality of horizontal spaced shelves 12 connected by vertically extending rods 13 slightly spaced apart as shown in Fig. 1. The top faces of the shelves 12 are provided with front portions to form a suitable drain for the water dripping from the article supported thereon. A plurality of rods 15 extend from one to the other of side members 8 and are arranged to form a substantially basket-like receptacle, the rods being adapted to support smaller articles after washing thereof.

Arranged near the bottom of the rack is an inclined drain board 16 which when the device is in its operative position as shown in Fig. 2, is adapted to overlap the drain board 3 as also shown in Fig. 2. The front edge of each of'the side walls 8 is provided with a notch 17 the purpose of which is to allow the rack to be moved bodily forward, and the upper wall 18 of each notch 17 to engage the top face of the drain board 3 to support the rack when in its raised position. Extending across the rear face of the top portion 1 and supported by legs 2 is a shaft 19 having a suitable crank handle 20. Connected to each of the side walls of the rack 8 near the bottom thereof is a rope or cable 21 which is adapted to be wound upon the shaft 19 to raise the rack and to also permit lowering thereof.

The operation is as follows: When used as a table, the rack is lowered to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 2 and the section 10 of the top is moved to overlie the tanks i and 5. lVhen used as a dish washing cabinet the rack is raised to the full line position shown in Fig. 2 and moved bodily forward to engage the wall 18 of notch 17 with the drain board 3 to support the same. The dishes are washed in the tank 1- and rinsed in the tank 5 and are then placed between t-he vertical members 13 so as to rest on the shelves 12. The water draining from these dishes will pass down the inclined face of the shelves and drop to the drain board 16 from where it passes over the drain board 3 back into the tanks 4: and 5. The basl-zetdike member or receptacle 15 is adapted to receive cups and other smaller articles. when the dish washing operation has been completed, the rack is lowered to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 2 in which position the rack with the dishes is held, until same are again desired for use.

In Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawings, 1 have illustrated a modification of my invention in which the raising and lowering means is eliminated, the rack 8 illustrated in these figures having the shelves 12 rods 15 and the drain board 16 the whole being adapted to be supported above the ordinary sink in a room where the space cannot be spared for the entire cabinet.

What is claimed is: g

1. In combination with a table having a dish washing tank, a vertically moving dish supporting rack, means for raising and lowering the dish supporting rack, and means for supporting same in its raised position, said supporting means comprising a drain board adapted to engage one edge of the dish washing tank.

2. In combination with a table having a dish washing tank, a dish supporting rack movable vertically with respect thereto, means for raising and lowering said dish supporting rack, a plurality of dish supporting shelves, a drain board below the shelves and adapted to overlie thedish washing tank when the dish supporting rack is in the elevated position, and discharge the water draining from said dishes to the dish washing tank.

In combination with a table having a dish washing tank, a dish supporting rack movable vertically with respect thereto means for raising and lowering the rack, and means for supportlng the rack 1n its raised position, said supporting means comprising .a drain board engaging one edge of the dish washing tank when said tank is V in its elevated position.

4. In combination with a. table having a means to convey the water from said dishes to the dish washing tank substantially as described. 5. In combination with a table having a dish washing tank, a dish'supporting rack carried thereby, and vertically movable with respect thereto, and meansfor supporting the dish supporting rack in its raised position, said supporting means comprising a drain board adapted to convey water from said dish supporting rack to saiddish washing tank. 7 In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
