BED.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 30, 1913.
Application filed February 7, 1913. Serial No. 746,863.
To all whom 2'15 may concern.
Be it known that I, JOSEPH A. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jacksonville, in the county of Duval, State of'Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Beds; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to bed springs.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of a bed spring which can be manufactured at a comparatively small cost and which will be sanitary to a high degree.
A further object of the invention resides resiliently supported upon the bed frame so as to enhance the comfort of the occupant.
lVith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and comination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view looking at the under side of the improved spring; Fig. 2, a fragmental perspective view showing the manner of supporting the spring upon the bed frame, and Fig. 8, a section through the bed frame engaging bracket carried at the free ends of the supporting leaf springs of the bed spring.
Referring to the drawings the bed spring is indicated generally at A and is shown as comprising a frame including side members 1.0 and end members 11. These side and end members support elements 12, shown in this instant as a plurality of wires connecting the side and'end members of the frame. Secured to the under side of each of the side members 10 are oppositely arranged leaf springs 13 and 14:. Secured to the under side of each of the end members 11 is a substantially U-shaped leaf spring 15. Each of the springs 13 and 14 have their free ends connected to a bracket B, said bracket including a hook shaped portion 16 which is slidably engaged over a given side member 17 of the bed frame. Each bracket B also includes an arm 18 provided with an elongated slot 19' and engaged through the free end of the springs 13 and 1 1 and through the slots 19 of respective brackets are clamping bolts 20. By this construction it will be apparent that the brackets B can be adjusted on the free ends of the springs 13 and let. The free ends of the springs 15 also have attached thereto brackets C which are identical with the brackets B and are slidably engaged with the end members of the bed frame, the adjustable nature of said brackets B and G enabling the spring to be applied to different sizes of beds.
hat I claim is 1. A bed spring comprising a frame, a plurality of leaf springs anchored to the under side of the frame, brackets connected to the free ends of said springs respectively and adapted to engage the side and end members of a bed, and means for adjusting the brackets relatively to the springs.
2. A bed spring comprising a frame, a plurality of leaf springs anchored to the under side of the frame, and means carried at the free ends of said spring for detachably and slidably engaging a bed frame.
In testimony whereof, I aiiiX my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
