A. G, WORMSER.
SAFETY RAZOR.
APPLICATION FILED 111111.31, 191s.

WITNESSES: IMENTUR G. VVbrmser BMW.

- SAF TY-anon.
T0 all 'whoin it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED G. WORMSER,
a citizehof the United States, residing'at Harrisburg, in the county of Dauphin and- State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors,
of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in safety-razors, and more particularly toremovable blade safety razors. i
It is the object of this invention to provide aremovable blade safety razor of simple hinged blade holder construction, which will readily allow the insertion or removal of the blade by pushin upward upon the under side of. oneend 0 the clamping plate and the clamping plate is readily released to swing backward upon the blade seat producing a sanitary construction in which all parts are readily exposed for cleaning.
While the preferred forms of this invention are illustrated upon the accompanying sheet of drawing, yet it is to be understood that minor detail changes may ,be made' without departing from the scope thereof.
the razor constructed in accordance with this invention withthe blade in position and ready for use. Fig. 2 is a perspective view illustrating the clamping plate released and swung back upon theblade seat for cleaning. Fig. 3' is a bottom plan view with the handle in section. Fig. 4 is a perspective view illus: trating the partial opening. of the holder for the insertion or removal of a blade.
In accordance with this invention the blade 1 is removably retained in a two-part blade 'holder comprising a flat blade seat and guard 2 and a flat clamping plate 3 hinged to the back thereof by a pintle 4, A handle 5 is secured to the under side of the blade seat. plate extend downward over each end of the blade seat and are provided with inturned ears 7 some distance below the under surface of the seat. The downward extending ends of the clamping late act as guides and position -members olding the blade firmly against transverse movement. The ends of the seat are providedwith cut out portions 8 to allow the passage ofthe ears 7 therethrough. A spring 9 is passed along the under side of the tenons 10 of the hinge and coiled about the pintle 4 between the outer Specification of Letters Patent.

tenons of the blade seat and clampingplate respectively and theextende'd ends are then brought forward so' that each one will rest on and exert a downward pressure upon the respective ears? of the clamping plate.
As seen in Fig. 4 by grasping the handle the thumb may exert an upward pressure upon one of the inturned'ears and thereby raise the front of theclamping plate sufficiently to ,either insert or remove .a blade. The extended ends of the spring 9 resting on the upper sides of the ears, as seen in Fig. 3, when pressed upward against the under side of the guard cross the cut out portions 8 thereof and act as a stop for further opening of the holder. To swing the clamping plate back for cleaning the ends of the spring 9- are brought together until the ears 7 are released and the ears may then the cut outs 8 in the blade seat.
What I claim is: 1. In a safety razor, 'a two-part hinged blade holder comprising a blade seat, a clampingfplate rotatably mounted thereon,
spring engaging means upon each end of 1 Figure l is a perspective view illustrating the clamping plate near the front edge extending a short distance below the seat, and a spring coiled about the hingepintle provided with extensions adapted to engage said means for normally drawing the plate and seat together and allowing a limited rotation ,of the plate to insert or remove a blade. I
2. In a safety razor, a two-part hinged blade holder comprising a flat blade seat, a flat clamping plate rotatably secured to the back of the seat,blade guides and positioning members thereon provided with inturned ears arrangedat a distance below the seat, the seat having cut out portions allowing .the ears to. pass therethrough, and a spring coiled about the hinge pintle for drawing the plate and seat together having extend- .ing ends normally engaging the inturned cut out portions allowing the ears to pass pass through therethrough, and a spring coiledabout the ward fetation of the clampin plate and binge pintle .for normally drawing the seat adapted to be disenga ed there om whereand plate together withits ends normally by the holder may be 11y opened;
extending'across the'under side pf'the cut G. WORMSER. 5 out portions of the seat and adapted to en- Witnesses:
