To all whom it may concern:

Be it known thatI, JACOB E. Donn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Yoakum, in the county of Dewitt and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Baby-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates tobaby protectors, the object in view being to provide a simple device adapted to be easily applied to an infant, and which when properly applied will prevent the child from bending his elbow sutliciently to enable the hands to reach the mouth.

By means of the device hereinafter described, the child is at liberty to play and move about or crawl from place to place, while at the same time the child is prevented from placing articles, too numerous to mention, in the mouth. This afi'ords great relief to the. mother or person caring for the child.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete device. Fig. 52 is a view illustrating the device applied to an infant.

The device comprises essentially a pair of sleeves 1. comparatively inflexible and com posed of some such material as card-board for example. Each sleeve is of a suitable diameter and length to receive one of the arms of the infant and cover the elbow, the length of the sleeve preventing excessive bending of the elbow, such as would be necessarv to enable the hands to reach the month. At its outer end, each sleeve is preferably rolled, as shown at 2, to avoid injury to the arms of the infant, while at its opposite or upper end, each sleeve is provided with an eye 3, in which is received a link 4. The link 4 is substantially rectangular with an open center, and the eye 3 is an integral part of the sleeve, being formed by providing said sleeve with a longitudinally projecting tab which is rolled over one of the side bars of the link and terminally fas tencd, as by glue, to the body of the sleeve, as indicated in Fig. l. The two sleeves are connected together by means of a back strap (5 which is adj ustable in length by means of a suitable buckle 7 of (mlinary construction, the extremities of the strap being looped around the outer bars of the links and sewed or otherwise secured to the body of the strap, as shown at the right of Fig. 1.

Securedabout centrally to the back strap 6 is a ring 8, to which a safety pin 9 may be connected for fastening the back strap to the clothing of the infant. Said ring is also adapted to receive a ribbon or tape, forming the neck band 10 which may be passed around the neck of the infant and tied in a bow or knot, or fastened in any convenient manner. the said neck band also serving as a support to prevent the back strap from falling down the back of the infant. Either or both of said devices may be used for holding the back strap in position, and this insures the retention of the elbow covering sleeves in proper position.

From the foregoing description. taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen thatthe inflex ble sleeves 1 prevent the infant from bending his elbows, so as to place articles of various kinds in the month. At. the same time. in crawling these inflexible sleeves assist the infant bv bracing the arms. The device as a whole does not interfere in anv way with the normal and proper movements of the infant, but only comes into plav when the infant attempts to put an article of any kind into his month.

What is claimed is:

A baby protector. comprising a pair of inflexible sleeves adapted to cover the elbows and prevent excessive bending of the same, eyes at the upper extremities of said sleeves formed by rolling over portions of the top edges of the sleeves. open center inks,'one bar of each of which is journaled to turn in one of said sleeves, an adjustable maere i In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
