My invention relates to improvements in draftv rigging for railway cars.
The objectot1 my invention is to provide a draft rigging of simple and cheap Aconstruction, and one of simple operation.

The friction members 23 'of thedrat gear comprise a housing 31, a Ltvedgi-i 32, and friction blocks 33, 33. The wedge 32 is provided at its rear end with a flat surface 52, which is adapted to engage' the lfront face 51 of the rear follower in full compression of the parts in buiiing and draft movements of the gear. The wedge is provided with a longitudinal o ening 53 registering with the opening 3 in the bar BGof the housing. f

A spring bolt 55 -passestlirough the openings 37 in the housing, 53 in the wedge, and the said grooves in the friction block, and through a perforation 5.6 through the 'rear follower 22,- and is rearwardly extended from the said rear 'follower a suitable distance to permit the mounting about the same of the spring members 24. The spring bolt 55 is forwardly provided with a head 57, and is rearwardly provided with the nut..58.
The spring members 24 preferably com prisc an inner 'spring 59 and an outer spring 60, the said springs being forwardly seated against the rear face G1 of the follower 22,`

The frontv follower 21 is provided at either lateral edge with a notch 64 for the passage of the Vlimbs 25, 25 of the yoke member.

front and rear followers, a wedge, a housing bar, andthe wedge having a pair of limbs straddling said bar and engaging the front follower, the friction blocks being in sliding fricticnal 4engagement with the housing, wedge and rear follower, the rear follower having means connectingit'to the draw-bar, and the spring being seated against the rear follower, and the spring bolt connecting said spring to the bar of the housing.

combination, a drawbar, stop members,
front and rear followers, a wedge, a housing therefor, friction blocks, a spring bolt and a spring, the wedge passing through said housing and engaging the front follower, the friction blocks being insliding frictional engagement with the housing, wedge and rear follower, the rear follower hajving means connecting it to the draw-bar, and the spring being seated against the rear follower, andV the spring bolt connecting said spring to thehousing.

In a device of the character described; a movable member, a wedge passing through said member, friction blocks, a spring, a transverse member interposed between the 'friction block and spring, and means connecting the movable member to the spring, lheI friction blocks being transversely displaccable by the wedge, the. movable member being forwardly movable by the friction blocks, said movable member being adapted through said connecting means lo draw the spring forwardly into compression against said transverse member on movement of the friction blocks.
