LEE KINGSLEY, OF SYRACUSE, NEW -YORK.
HOLDER FOE ADHESIVE BINDERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented ent. a. leis.
Application filed November28, 1911. Serial No. 662,895.
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEE KINGSLEY, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Holders for Adhesive Binders, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact del scription.
This invention relates to certain improvements in holders for adhesive binders, such as pastors, labels and similar articles of paper or other suitable material having one side coated With an adhesive for afliX- ing checks to bills and for any .other purpasters may be ap- The primary object-is to provide simple means for holding or maintaining one or more stacks of collated pastors in position for convenient removal and application one by one to the article or articles to which they are to be applied without disturbing or disarranging the remaining pasters of the stack.
Another object is to provide simple means for automatically feeding the pasters into position to be removed one by one.
Other objects and uses will be brought out in the following description:
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the incased holder ready for shipmerit and containing a quantity of pasters. Fig. 2 is a similar perspective view of the holder ready for use, the case being removech Fig 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken on line 33, Fig. 2showing the case in dottedlines. Fig. 4. is a perspective view of the detached receptacle for the pasters and feeding means. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the detached paster retaining cap. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the follower. Fig. 7 is a perspective view of one of the pasters inverted.
As shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, this holder comprises a receptacle 1- for receiving and retaining a series 'of stacked pasters a-, a follower 2- and aspring 3, said receptacle being provided with a removable paster retaining cap 4.' surrounding its upper open end. The receptacle l is adapted to be inclosed in a.
suitable case 5 for protecting the pas ters in storage or transportation and for this purpose its lower end is open and pro:
vided with bendable tongues or flanges 6- adapted to be bent or deflected under thebottom of the receptacle --1 to hold 1t 1n operative position.
box. of sheet metal or other suitable material open at the top for the reception of the pasters -6L which areslid'able vertically therein and are fed upwardly through the open end of the receptacle and against the retaining cap 4. by means of the follower 2 and spring 3- as the uppermost labels are removed one by one.
The follower 2 may be made of paste board or any other suitable material of slightly less area than the interior of the receptacle l so as to move freely therein and is spring pressed upwardly by the spring 3 upon which it rests, the lower end of said spring being engaged with the bottom of the receptacle 1' as shown more-clearly in Fig. 3. The upper side of the follower is preferably conveXed or V shaped transversely so as to impart a similar form to the paster afor feeding the central. portions thereof upwardly and foremost through the open end of the receptacle or rather through the openingin the retaining cap 4i and also for the purpose of retaining the pasters in more perfect alinement or stacked arrangement. These pastors --a which: are preferably made of paper coatedon one side with an adhesive are also rectangular in plan and of slightly less length than the corresponding length of the interior of the receptacl'e'j but are normally of greater width than the The receptacle 'l preferably consists of a rectangular corresponding width of said receptacle so that when folded, the tendency of the edges is to spread apart and to implnge against the adjacent side of the receptacle,- thereby frictionally holding them against undue upward displacement and at the same time allowing the upwardly arched central portions of the pasters to protrude through the opening in the retaining cap This retaining cap is fitted with a frictionalfit for removability upon the upper open end of the receptacle -1 and its opposite sides are provided with inwardly projecting flanges -7 projecting some distance beyond the corresponding sides of the receptacle but spaced some distance apart to leave a central opening -8 through which the upwardlyarched central portions of the pasters may protrude, said flanges serving to engage the upper surface of the downwardly deflected sides of the uppermost paster to additionally hold the stack against undue upward displacement, and at the same time allowing the central portion mainmg pasters are advanced upwardly through the medium of the follower 2 and spring 3-, thereby impinging the sides of the top pastor against the flanges -7 of the retaining cap l which as previously stated temporarily hold the stack against further upward movementagainst the action of the spring -3-. The upper portions of the opposite ends of the receptacle -1-' are provided with guards or guide plates 9- for engagement with the ends'of the pasters to prevent accidental. lateral displacement thereof.
The retainer l is preferably made of sheet metal and its flanges e-T- serve as limiting stops to prevent unduedownward movement thereof on the receptacle, while its opposite ends as 10 are .made to frict-ionally bind against the corresponding ends of the receptacle to hold the cap against upward displacement under the action of the spring 3- but may be withdrawn by hand at. any time, as, for example, when it is desired to refill the receptacle with pasters. lVhen the receptacle is filled and the cap 4 placed in operative position, it may be covered by the casing or cover 5 which telescopes with an easy sliding fit with said receptacle, the upper end being closed, while its lower end is provided with lips or tongues -6 adapted to be bent under the bottom of the receptacle as shown in Fig. 3
. to hold the cover in operative position.
In refilling the receptacle with pasters,
the retaining cap 4' may be removed and.
a suitable quantity of the pasters which are previously cut into the desired form are stacked together and inserted into the open end of the receptacle and upon the follower 2, thereby pressing said follower downward against the action of the spring .3
after which the cap 4 may be replaced As each up-.
binders and holding'them in partially folded position with their a pexes uppermost, and: r
a follower withinthe receptacle and spring pressed upwardly and having its upper face V-shape to conform to andengage with the fold of the l-owermostbinden 2. A holder for folded binders comprising a case having two of its opposite side walls spaced apart a considerably less 'distance than the length of the binder when flattened out for engaging the ends ofsaid binders and holdingthem in a partially fold ed position with their apexes uppermost, and a cap fitted with a frictional sliding fit upon tlieupper end of-the casexand provided with opposite inwardly projecting flanges extendi mg beyondthe itdjttQBIlt sides of the case and spaced some dlstanceapartto form a lengtlr wise opening of substantially the same width;
as the binders and a follower within the case spring pressed upwardly and having a V-shape upper face engaging in the fold of the lowermost binder for forcing the apexes of the uppermost binders throughjand above the opening in the cap.
3. A holder for adhesive binders comprising a case having two of its opposite upright sides parallel and spaced apart a distance less than the length of the binders, said binders being folded midway between their ends and stacked within the case with their ends abutting against said parallel sides so as to force the apexes of the binders upwardly,
the upper end of the case being provided 7 with an opening and stop shoulders'for engaging the opposite ends of'the uppermost binders, and a follower within the case spring pressed upwardly and having a V- shape upper face engaging in the fold of the lowermost binder for forcing the apexes of the binders upwardly through the open top of the case.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand on't-his 17th day of November 1911.
