Abstract

24,066. Sexton, A. E. Nov. 5. Paper-holders.-Relates to holders for toilet paper, sheets of which are folded in half, each leaf being placed between the leaves of the adjacent sheets. The withdrawal of a sheet through a slot in the top, side, or bottom of the holder thus partly drags out the next sheet. By folding several sheets together, and packing such sets of sheets together as described, the same number will be delivered simultaneously. A box-shaped or other holder is made of cardboard or other material. In the lower portion is placed an inclined brace b. The back c is folded at d and at e forming an inclined floor for the sheets. The latter are thrust towards a slot by the spring arms g fastened to the back c by a strip j of cardboard &c. A piece is cut out of the back c, and a tongue k of similar shape is inserted between the sheets c, j and held by a staple in a wall, thus supporting the paper-holder. The slot f may be formed in the face of the holder by making an incision and drawing back the cut edges to form lips ; lining and thickening pieces of wood, metal, or cardboard may be added to strengthen the slot and make the sheet of paper to be delivered stand away from the lips of the slot. Pieces or strips n of wood, metal, &c. extending longitudinally with the slot and chamfered off towards its edges may be attached to the inside of the box to cause the foremost sheets to bulge out and turn more easily while being withdrawn. The curved surfaces may be roughened, or strips of sandpaper m may be attached to them so that the friction will prevent several sheets from emerging together. A recess is made in the top of the holder behind the slot so that the first sheet of the pack may be levered out. The lips of the slot are also cut away so that any sheet which has not been delivered properly may be grasped by the fingers.
