To all whom it may concern:
TON and FRANK CALVERT, citizensiofthe United States, and residents, respectively, of Philadelphia, county of .Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, and. 'Narberth,
Montgomery county, Pennsylvania, have in,
vented an Improvement in'fiPaperwPackages for Toilet or Towel Purposes,- of} ,the
following is a specification,
This inventionrelates toa iew and useful improvement in paper packages ,for-
toiletor towel purposes, and consists ofcertain improvements which arefully set forth in the following specificationand shovvnin'i the accompanying drawings forming a part f I I c r ev dent that .as the successive sheets are thereof. i
- Our invention has for an object to provide. a paper package formed ,of plurality of i a 511w man-v ner to form a compact uniform package superposed sheets of. paper f0 from which the shee may teatime one at a time, while the removal of a' sheet causes the next adjacent sheet to automatically assume a position wherein a thereof may bggrasped so that it in turn may be withdr Wn when desired.
It has for a further object to provide ,package in which the respective sheets are folded to form tabs located at one side of the sheet for the purpose of providing a'portion which may be grasped to withdraw the sheet from the container. for the package.
Our invention also comprehends details of construction which, together with the features above specified, will be better understood by reference to the drawings, in which:
Figure 1 represents a perspective of a paper package embodying our invention; Fig. 2 represents an end elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 represents a modified form of single ply material. i
1 designates a package of pa er assembled from a plurahty of sheets 0 paper for either toilet or towel purposes, the said sheets being arranged one against the other in superposed relation so that in the preferred form of the invention, as shown in Fig. 1, the package consists of a plurality 'of superposed sheets. The respective sheets of the package are designated, by the reference numeral 2, and each is preferably multi-ply inthickness by folding the sheet orti on .alon g its median line 3 and bringing the Be it known that we, ERN s'r A. HAMmends4togethenas will readily be understood.v this folded. condition each sheet isaga nfdded a 5- and 6 to P of tabs-7 and 8, one of which consists of the ing substantial end which may be readily grasped without tearing to withdraw" the p cm atmn or Letterire f Patented l )'e'c. 15, 1914. f
sheet from the package. The tabsv 7. and 8, i
in: the present instance, are folded to the same side of the sheet and in abuttingrelation, andthe ljengthof one tab, transversely with respect toithe fold, is generally less' 'than'f'h' Width of the body portion of the sheets. With this construction it. will be placed one against the other, the folded willbe v accurately held. between the sheetslai'id' as all of the tfabsat one side of the package are of "substantially the same .-,len th, th rask ma b -be 1 9 formly, with the body portionof each sheet forming substantially a plane surface.
In Fig. .3 we have shown a package formed of a plurality of sheets,v each of which is single pl and consequently the fold along the me ian line is omitted, but otherwise the tabs are provided as in the preferred formabove described.
A package of-this character is adapted to be supported along the folds 5 and 6 of the bottom sheet in such a manner that one or the other of the .tabs 7 and 8 may depend or'hang, under the action of gravity, away from the bodv portion of the sheet, thereby forming a means to grasp the sheet and effect its withdrawal. It will thus be seen that as soon as one sheet is removed the next adjacent one takes its place so that a tab on bers 'so thatth'e-package may be readily handled .Without' destroying its unitary character or the displacement of any sheet or sheets. When, however, the package is placed in a cabinet or receptacle for use the tying bands are of course broken and removed so that thesheets may be successively removed as heretofore described.
It will now be apparent that we have devised a novel and useful construction which embodies the features of advantage enumerated as desirable, and while We have in the present instance shown and described the preferred embodiment thereof which has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that we do not restrict ourselves to the details, as the same are susceptible of modification in various particulars without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.
Having thus described our invention, What we claim as new and desire to protect byLetters Patent is l. A package for toilet purposes, consisting of a plurality of sheets of paper each sheet being folded to. form a plurality of tabs at the same side of they sheet and overlapping the body of the said sheet, said tabs in contact with the same side surface of the against the other to form a package, each sheet of said package being independent and wholly outside of the remaining sheets, and the tabs of each sheet being Wholly separated from the tabs of the other sheets by the body portions of the sheets.
2. A package for toilet purposes, consisting of'a plurality of sheets of paper, each sheet being folded to form a plurality of tabs said tabs overlapping the same side of the body of the sheet and said tabe of each sheet also disposed in the same plane and having a combinedwidth, transversely to the fold, less than the Width of the body of the sheet,
and all of said sheets being successively arranged one against the other with the tabs of the respective sheets wholly in contact with the body of their own sheet and the body of the next adjacent sheet whereby the tabs of one sheet are out of contact with tabs of any other sheet, and each sheet independent of and removable from adjacent sheets without disturbing the tabs thereof. In testimony of which mvention, we hereunto set our hands.
